Stella Wedell found a mixtape she had lost while holidaying in Spain 25 years ago featured in an exhibition by Mandy Barker, who makes art out of marine debris. The reality star started dating basketball player Tristan Thompson in 2016 but the relationship has been something of a roller coaster ride. With the band referring to itself as “a social movement to expose the failure of the human race,” There Is No Us has announced the release of a new single, titled “Fame Whore.” With a corresponding music video to also appear, the song marks the first new material from the band since the 2018 Generation of Failure EP ; the band has been gradually dropping teaser videos and posts on social media since late December, with the “Fame Whore” single and video to arrive on February 24 via Cleopatra Records. Pre-saves on major streaming outlets are available now. In December 2022, the band revealed a video for “In Violence We Trust” from the Farewell to Humanity EP, which originally debuted in 2015; a video for “Angel’s Face with Devil’s Hands” from Generation of Failure followed in January of this year. It’s a bit basic to immediately bring up RuPaul’s Drag Race when reviewing a new drag show but seeing as Fame Whore – an excellent new piece of LGBTQ+ writing now playing at the King’s Head Theatre – is in part an examination of its under-discussed negative impacts on queer culture, it’s worth a mention. Ever since that TV reality competition exposed wider society to its specific style of drag, the art form more broadly has exploded in popularity. As the show has evolved, it has begun to showcase a broader variety of approaches to drag, but it has done so quite slowly while doing little to combat the more toxic side of its fan culture.

If you hate drag, this show will make you fall in love with the art form. If you love Drag Race, this show will give you a taste of the excellent work being done beyond the glittery confines of that television show. And if you are a drag connoisseur, this is an unmissable addition to the canon of incredible drag theatre shows that hold up a funhouse mirror to society and cause us to hurt ourselves with laughter.
