About this deal

Clynelish is known for its waxy and oily profile, and this is present here with a pleasantly creamy mouthfeel. It has long been sold below its actual worth point and for many years we were used to getting a malt that could easily have commanded a sizeable percentage more. If I could nose it for an hour, then let it swim around in my mouth forever without having to swallow, it would easily rate a 90-plus.

Taste: Beeswax, honey and a whiff of white pepper, but also caramel and red apples, as well as peaches. It lacks the organic coherency that makes some scotches seem less like "spirits" and more like a delicious drink for the living rather than a potion from the Great Beyond, borne in the bony hands of Liches which thrive on "ishes" of nursed regrets that suck at edges of one's soul like some eldritch grimalkin. So much so, that after the glass of Smith's 8 Year old, I had to have a glass of water to clear my palate enough to smell anything!I am looking forward to going back in about 6 mos and re-doing a bottle of that simply for scientific significance. In any distillery there is a natural precipitation of oils in this tank which would normally be removed during the distillery’s annual silent season when the plant is fully cleaned. In the present day Diageo-owned operation, barley is malted with a medium peat and mashed with water from the Clynemilton burn to produce the wort, which is then distilled twice in pot stills. Metaphysics aside - it is either worthwhile or not from the existential experience (redundant but meaningful). At first I just could not place what that weird taste was, but after a few drinks and remembering back to my childhood and having the unfortunate experience of tasting soap.

The empty glass brings new notes of tobacco, sandalwood and - boom - the idea you’re nosing a box of Crayola. If you terminate your account, you will no longer have access to the Service and your Contributions (specified below), if any.Located in Highland region, Clynelish 14 year old single malt whisky comes from a distillery built opposite the nowadays silent Brora distillery.

The Clynelish distillery shares terrain with that other distillery, long closed and enjoying a near cult status, Brora (founded in 1819 under the name Clynelish). The low wines from the was still are pumped into the low wines receiver, and from there into the spirits still via the spirit still charger. And since I have three sparring partners – all of them from Signatory by the way – I felt it was a good preparation to try the classic Clynelish 14 Year Old one more time. Palate entry finds generous and malty-sweet flavors; by midpalate distinctive notes of black pepper, seaweed, oaky vanilla, honey and dark caramel are added. At first sight not much had changed, but appearances can be deceiving, as Clynelish was comprehensively modernised. Taste/Palate: More added citrus peel, floral notes have a greater strength going from flowers in a vase (nose) to freshly blooming outdoor flowers.
