About this deal

The Brooks Ghost is probably the blandest running shoe in existence. If the Ghost was a pizza, it would be a Margherita. The Glycerin used to be the only Brooks trainer with a full DNA Loft midsole but now that the Ghost 14 also has one, the Ghost represents much better value. There’s absolutely no need for break-in in the Ghost 14, Brooks made this shoe ready to take out of the box and do a 5K on day one if needed. Ghost 14 could be lighter It puts my feet on a steeper downward ramp and I feel like it helps me through transitions more than shoes with a less aggressive drop. One thing to be aware of is that the midsole of the Ghost 14 is plain EVA so there isn’t much energy return with each footstrike. The midsole does provide a very well-padded ride with plenty of foot protection.

The last gripe on the ride is the 12.4mm drop. As a generalist shoe built for the masses, this is just too much drop. It needs to be 6-8 to work well for the majority of runners I think. It feels steep and I just hate steep drop shoes unless they have a specific reason for being so. Ready to go straight from the box The only time I ever run in a 12 mm drop is when I’m testing the Ghost. While it might put some people off, I don’t mind the high drop. In fact the two versions are so similar that when I did an A/B test run with one version on each foot at the same time, I really had to concentrate to notice a difference in ride. Delivery timescales are based on working days; Public Holidays, Saturday's and Sunday's are NOT classed as working days. After 80 kilometers in the Ghost 14, I’ve noticed that outsole durability is however below average compared to other daily trainers so if you’re particularly hard on outsoles, stay away from the Ghost. The Ghost has an enormous, loyal fan base. It’s a certain type of runner who buys the Ghost every year: the type of runner who doesn’t like taking risks when it comes to running shoes. It’s one of the best shoes I’ve tested for long runs because of its excellent stability, high level of cushioning and its comfortable upper.

Consider coming into a store and doing a video gait analysis. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes. There are two different types of rubber used on the Ghost 14’s outsole: soft rubber on the forefoot and harder, more durable carbon rubber on the heel section. This shoe only has one reflective element on the heel, even though it looks like there are reflective elements on the side, they didn’t actually reflect light. The new headline feature of the Ghost 14 is that it now has a full DNA Loft midsole compared to the 13 that only had a half DNA Loft midsole.

I did see Brooks makes this in one fun colorway, a killer neon green, good for you brooks to step out and try something new. Night runners If you wanted to run a marathon in the Ghost 14 and you weren’t worried about your time, you definitely could. I did 42 kilometres in it and it performed brilliantly. I enjoyed it most on steady-paced runs, slightly faster than easy pace, between 4.50 and 5.30 minutes per kilometre. As a daily trainer weight is not usually a key issue to stress about, but this shoe would be more interesting at 8.5-9 ounces. Built heavy-duty

The Ghost 14 gets brand new flat laces which replace the old oval laces. I find that the flat laces distribute pressure more evenly and they make the entire lacing area flatter and more performance oriented. It has a lot of padding and cushion, so it’s not lightweight. At 10.1 ounces (287g) it tips over a crucial landmark of being above 10 ounces. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot test I pushed the shoe to a 5/min pace and it went, it can be done, but that’s not its sweet spot. Mild runs are where it likes to perform and that’s just fine for the majority of runners.

Honestly, these shoes are far better than the Pegasus’ I was using before. Those things killed my feet but I feel great after my runs in the Ghost 14’s.

Version 14 feels more versatile and more performance-oriented than version 13 because of its streamlined upper, snappier forefoot and its new full DNA Loft midsole. There’s a popular saying that goes something like, the more things change, the more they stay the same. The Ghost 14 GTX Running Shoes from Brooks combine long-distance comfort with excellent weather protection from GORE-TEX, making them a good choice for putting in the training miles in all weather conditions. With a midsole made from DNA LOFT and a Segmented Crash Pad design, the ride is plush and well-cushioned, giving smooth, natural feeling transitions and great comfort. The 3D Fit Print upper provides both stretch and structure where needed, allowing the shoe to conform comfortably to the individual foot shape. By using a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane that is bonded directly to the upper material, the fit and flexibility remain whilst cold rain and puddles are kept out. As for me, the only issue I have wuith them is that the outsole is wearing a little faster than I would’ve liked, but not by much. They’re lasting longer than my Nike Pegasus 39’s did. Besides that complaint, my Ghost 14’s have been phenomenal. I feel great all throughout my runs in them, and I run anywhere from 25-30 miles every week. I even use them for walking some days and they make for excellent walking shoes.

The initial wear of the outsole rubber, especially on the heel area shows rapid wear after the first couple of runs, however after that, the wear tapers.
