About this deal

The best board games tell a good story, and traditionally that story has always started over again each time you open the game box. The Kickstarter campaign for Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar went live Tuesday as expected. Jurassic World is a cooperative, dice-based worker placement style game for 2-6 players, but we feel works best with 4-5. With only two actions a round, a single player will need to spend nearly half the game just shuffling crates or DNA tokens. If you enjoy strategy games and think Jurassic Park is roarsome, then you’ll love getting in on the action with Jurassic Park Danger!

Damage is easy in Jurassic Park: Danger, there are no rolls/saves/dodges, if you are in the same space as a dinosaur, you get injured and the dinosaur player “burns” one random card from your hand, unless the T-Rex uses their special ability and takes two. Employees have various skills, which allow them to place buildings and create dinosaurs for example. Unless you can squeeze joy from the table-talk and overall strategic decision making, those tasked with janitorial duty might not want to show up for next week’s game.In this case, committing to the full 12 scenarios of Isla Nublar is worth the effort — as long as you’re only playing with a single partner or two. The action economy is fun, makes a good match for the subject matter, and feels well-balanced in relation to the game’s overall level of threat. Aguilar concluded that the game "lives up to its promise and delivers a one-of-a-kind cooperative experience".

Like Dr Grant, we have decided not to endorse this park and we would have gladly paid more for a better product, both in quality and execution. Those familiar with our reviews will know we often like to get a first time player to give their thoughts and this time round it was our good friend Harry’s turn. Although they have made a working car, they have not actually done anything “together” and that is how Jurassic World’s teamwork operates, everyone working towards a common goal but expected to complete their individual assignments singlehandedly. But all those bits also serve a purpose, focusing players’ attention back to the island itself, which quickly becomes the centerpiece of the entire campaign experience. It’s the same sort of tension baked into the semi-random deck of cards in the game Pandemic, but with only five rounds and five cards to pull the tension feels much tighter and more focused. The Dilophosaurus can spit into adjacent tiles, the Velociraptor can sprint across two tiles in one turn and the T-Rex can deal double damage. The overall scenario structure is iterative, repeating over and over again in the campaign with variance primarily occurring in the story-focused objectives that mimic the franchise’s various film plots. The action scaling is frankly a huge blunder and leaves The Legacy of Isla Nublar working best at only two or three players. This award-winning board game puts players in charge of their own species during a pre-ice age time.
