About this deal

While John Sampson of DC Metro Police investigates the last movements of Christopher Randall, the educator killed along with Kay Willingham, detective Alex Cross and FBI special agent Ned Mahoney find unanswered questions from Willingham's past, before she arrived in DC and became known in DC society as someone who could make things happen. The fact that I am still entertained on the 22nd book of the Alex Cross series says something about staying power and character development.

No one gets this big without amazing natural storytelling talent - which is what Jim has, in spades. Crazy madman takes Alex's family and threatens them unless Alex comes to him so crazy person can kill him. If he can't convince his own family that he didn't pull the trigger with intent to kill, how can he hope to persuade a jury? I decided to read this book out of the hope that one of the Cross family members would die, that being the only imaginable way to create any meaningful change in the character and the series. So why was she parked in a Bentley convertible idling behind a DC private school, in the middle of the night, with the man who was the head of that school? But even with everything on the line, Cross will do whatever it takes to stop a dangerous criminal .

As Alex and Siegel battle over jurisdiction, the murders continue-and they won't stop until Cross and his family are gone for good. Hope to Die picks up where Cross My Heart ended (I only got the title tie-in now), with Alex Cross falling apart because his family has been kidnapped. It's funny now when I read a JP book on my kindle, it seems the first 5% is taken up just listing his previous books.

Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? It's more gritty and the storyline more believable although I felt that you had to suspend belief in the end bit. This is the second time recently that the author has used cliffhangers to tease a change in one of his series, and both have turned out to be gimmicky tricks intended simply to get another bestseller. I’m thrilled that after so many books in the Alex Cross series and reading these through so many years of my life that I am still enjoying them so much.
