About this deal

When a new executive position is announced, Josh and Lucy are top contenders for the promotion, but the idea of working for the other is so unthinkable that they strike a deal: whoever doesn’t get the job will walk away.

Furthermore, he is obviously supposed to be the ‘bad boy’; the other person, an ex-colleague, is portrayed as the ‘nice guy’. Danny, a designer who used to work with Josh and Lucy, is clearly interested in Lucy, and in that moment, she is as well. Now a film starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, globally bestselling author Sally Thorne's hilarious workplace comedy is all about the fine line between love and hate.

She then spends every waking moment thinking of him, his muscles, his body against hers, and, well, you get the point. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive-aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. We’re expected to feel sorry for him because he’s so hot, but actually shy and with self-esteem issues which, in this bizarro world, are valid excuses for men (and it’s always men) not to try to behave like decent human beings. Thirdly, while I knew I’d enjoy Lucy and how she is struggling to establish limits, Josh unexpectedly captured my heart. I’ve already talked about how much i love their chemistry and romance, but i honestly can’t emphasise it enough.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head, and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. Trying to emulate this sort of romance would probably backfire in real life and shouldn’t be encouraged; the moral of this story should not be interpreted as: “if you want your coworker to fall in love with you, be as evil to them as possible until they can’t stand it anymore. From the first page to the end, I loved the couple and the story, even though it has many elements that aren’t my favorite — such as it is told in the first person present (by Lucy), and we never get Joshua’s perspective other than what Lucy learns. Excerpts and links may be used, provided that full and clear credit is given to Vassiliki Veros and ShallowReader with appropriate and specific direction to the original content. I loved the cast in the movie, Austin and Lucy are perfect, but let’s just say the book is far much better than the movie.
