And that is Barbie: Mermaid Power. It's a movie that goes above and beyond. It manages to get pretty epic, but they reinforce the character conflicts to help make it all work. It has really great songs and animation, all tied together with a wonderful message. I highly recommend this one.

When Isla meets Brooklyn, she is fascinated by the idea of another human named Barbie and welcomes the both of them into Pacifica, where they encounter several other merfolk, including Finn and Aquaryah Aquavilla, Talleigha Fishtail, and Sareena Seasquid. Later, she attends the opening ceremony, where the contestants in the competition are welcomed by Coralia and told of the challenges that await them and the fact that no one in Pacifica will know who will earn the title of Power Keeper, regarded as the most powerful of all mermen and mermaids. Once the ceremony is over, Brooklyn suggests that they start practicing, but not before learning from Isla that mermen and mermaids are distrustful of any strangers, which explains why Talleigha, Sareena, and Finn have berated her and the Roberts sisters. Next year sees more content on the way from the powerhouse brand, as the live-action Barbie movie arrives in cinemas. The much-anticipated adventure about the iconic doll, played by Margot Robbie alongside a star-studded supporting cast, is slated for release on 21st July 2023.

Malibu tries to convince Marlo that there is more to being a mermaid than she knows, and pleads with Marlo to help free her as Marlo is trying to retrieve a tiara lodged near a wall. Once she retrieves the tiara, Marlo is reminded of her grandmother's words regarding the tiara and places it on Malibu's head, fully awakening Malibu's Water powers and allowing her to free herself and blast them an exit out of Marlo's vessel. Malibu and Marlo then meet up with the other merpeople at the island of trash. When they arrive, they are later joined by Chelsea and Aquaryah, who escaped from Marlo's grasp earlier. And now it's time for more events. For the water element, they have to connect with a sea creature and guide them through the obstacle course. The winner is determined by whoever reaches the golden ring first. That sounds simple enough, though we do get some pretty interesting moments. When Sareena goes with a dolphin, she bonds with her pretty well. It helps that she treated her as a friend. Talleigha tries to go with a shark, but she doesn't want to be partners with her. Given how pushy she was in demanding her to work together, it's no surprise. Malibu Barbie gets paired up with a narwhal, and in a similar manner to Sareena, she actually gets along with her. In fact, she calls her the unicorn of the sea as a way to comment on her majesty. She also allows the narwhal to grab her clothes and be led by her. It all shows that she likes letting others know that their feelings matter and will do what she can to make them comfortable. Barbie and Sareena go through the course, where they both have a good time being with each other. Sareena wins this round, making her a mermaid of water. Barbie congratulates her, which she doesn't mind. Talleigha thinks that she's a traitor until she says that she's one because of how she treats fellow sea creatures. Sareena calling her a traitor here makes sense. Isla said that they don't treat sea creatures as pets, which is what she just did. Sareena treats sea creatures like they're family. She also sees that Barbie is good not just for showing compassion towards sea creatures, but also because she's humble enough to be led by one rather than the other way around. Of course, while she leaves to help, she doesn't break off their friendship. This is an indicator that she just wants her to make the right choices. Aquatic animal communication: With the gift of the power of water, Malibu can communicate with aquatic animals whilst no other mermaid/merman can do. This is seen where she communicates with a narwhal. At a science academy, Marlo (also returning from Dolphin Magic) tried but failed miserably to convince its attendants to buy into her proof of worth that the myth surrounding mermaids is true with some verbally doubting her credentials and their leader, Dr. Amy Tang, going on to verbally revoke her institution's funding to Marlo to further her "frivolous fairy-tale witch-hunt" research as she put it. Marlo was hyper-focused on it whether she would receive funding on it or not and had listed her right-hand assistant, Oslo, to achieve this.
