About this deal

The UK C825K and C826K are using 2 year old chipset a Realtek chipset and gpu, were as Europe are using the Mediatek, also no VRR, AMD SYNC, IMAX ENHANCED, only Dolby Vision Dark and Light STORAGE 16GB 2GB RAM EUROPEAN 32GB 3GB RAM. Yesterday I was on the TV for a good solid 10 hours and I actually felt eye-strain as it was just too bright even in movie mode. The Mini LED concept groups thousands of tiny LEDs into 128 dimming zones on this 55-inch model (160 zones on the 65-inch), backing a Quantum Dot colour layer and an LCD panel. Le fabricant chinois TCL se montre donc agressif sur le prix, mais cela se paye par une luminosité trop juste et.

It was pleasingly easy to set up, too, with a single-piece stand connected via four screws to the very bottom of the TV rather than to the back, as is more usual; this has the advantage that you can lay the TV on its back rather than its front while connecting the stand, a less fraught procedure. The three-leg stand is a unique design with the centre pointing to the rear for support and the left and right legs towards the front and sides. Despite using excellent HDMI cables from a high end PC, if I run any resolution above 1080p, this "4K Roku TV will crash my PC. When it comes to calibration there are some decent controls available with 2-point and 20-point options and a basic Colour Management System. Here, black bars are noticeably dark grey with light spill from objects within the movie or TV show, and we also have bright corners to the panel uniformity visible. Is the promotion TCL 55C826K 55 Inch Mini LED QLED 4K Ultra HD Smart Android TV not really what you are looking for or has the offer expired? TCL has been gradually strengthening its foothold in the UK over the past few years and overtook LG as the second-biggest TV brand in the world behind Samsung in 2022. Given its video integration, Google answers questions like a Google smart display rather than a smart speaker – and presents similar quirks.

For some user’s view angle is important as they always watch in group, in that case the TV should have wide view angle.

There’s still support for HLG, HDR 10, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision IQ, but the quantum dot LED panel does without FALD and has a native refresh rate of 60Hz. How much this helps or interferes is hard to judge, of course, but old Star Trek episodes came up almost as shiny as their remastered versions. The remote control is worthy of praise, kept nicely simple, with those six service-specific one-touch keys and a top circle to activate voice control. The TCL 65C728 TV very clearly shows what the strengths are, and where the compromises had to be made. My belief is that they have taken last years panels (60hz) and put them in the housing for the C825 and are selling them to the UK under false pretences.

The TCL C835 is almost bezel-less, with a teeny 2-3mm picture surround and a thicker 1cm bottom bezel. It is, of course, possible for Google Assistant to be triggered by words coming from the television itself; interestingly the phrase “ Why does the Dwarf stare at you, Tauriel? Only TV I can think of that will rival it for value would be the Hisense U8Q from 2020, not to be confused with the more recent U8GQ which is a worse TV. For standard users who simply want a well-built TV, a sleek and slim TV with slim bezels will satisfy them.

If this 55-inch’s mere 128 zones seem rather crude by comparison with such a number, TCL Europe’s Marek Maciejewski would disagree, noting in a recent presentation to EISA editors that our ability to discern dimming zones is limited to 4° of resolution, equivalent to 144 zones on a 65-inch when viewed from a normal viewing position, so that TCL’s numbers exceed what should be discernable. It’s not going to rock your world with movie impact and megabass; it’s not even going to match many separate soundbars, let alone hi-fi speakers flanking your TV, but it is able to deliver good day-to-day sound and crank movies reasonably high, delivering an impressive spaciousness at best, such as during the spooky ‘don’t leave the path’ sequence in the second Hobbit movie.

It has a 60Hz VA panel with a quantum dot filter and direct LED backlighting and uses the same processor found on the C635K. This ink-jet OLED is due for launch in 2024, yet it’s hard to imagine how any new OLEDs will outperform what we are seeing here in value terms, especially after two more annual iterative improvements for Mini LED. So the surprise comes when you see TCL’s analysis of the results of this change, and particularly its comparison with OLED, still regarded by many, ourselves included for the most part, as the TV technology du jour in areas such as contrast and HDR, if not in absolute brightness.Branding exercises aside, however, this is a useful three-way speaker system with mid and tweeter drivers in the bar, and that woofer on the back handling 60-200Hz – though in a slightly vulnerable position when you’re moving the TV. It seems to make no difference to the load up time whether you are loading the TV from standby or having just plugged it in. Samsung SDR/HDR brightness is better than TCL 4 series and while the SDR brightness value is good, the HDR should be improved. They may not do well when displaying star fields, notes Maciejewski, but for real-world material this allows all those OLED-like advantages to be delivered halo-free. The C845 also utilises quantum dot technology to enhance colour richness, contrast and realism, while there is also support for various HDR formats – including Dolby Vision IQ – to make sure that picture is as crisp as possible no matter what you’re watching.
