Fattypuffs and Thinifers do not mix, and their respective countries are on the verge of war when Edmund and Terry make their visit. The story offers endless possibilities for discussion in the classroom around the subject of politics and international conflicts, but most of all it will be enjoyed for its ingenious plot and zany characterisation.miserable-thin war and perfect for adults who can examine the true-to-life subtext, all while reading a too-short and much loved classic.

When my elderly friend commented on some neighbours of ours, many years ago, as ‘fattypuffs and thinifers, I thought he’d just made it up. An adorable little satire with two message that are just as relevant now as they were almost a hundred years ago. Thoroughly entertaining fantasy about two brothers plunged into a war between a nation of obese pleasure-seekers (the Fattypuffs) and a country of skinny grumps (the Thinifers). Informed by the author's experiences during The Great War it's a pretty anti-war tome but it's other key message is it doesn't matter whether you're fat or thin just be yourself.

I loved this book as a child, and for some reason I was thinking about it tonight so I looked it up on Goodreads. I bought this book for nostalgia purposes as I enjoyed it so much in junior school back in the 1970s but had it taken back off me at the end of summer term by teacher before I had chance to finish it.

He worked in his father's textile factory as a young man and when World War One broke out he was employed as an interpreter, then as a liaison officer to the British Army. There's always a recipe for choux buns in the back if the thought of Brexit makes you weep after reading this.Despite being total strangers to each culture the boys are taken in and welcomed and given homes and eventually their positions in their relative families allows them to influence decisions being made about the Fattypuff vs Thinifer war. iki kitap da kütüphanemde olmasına rağmen İklimler ile bu kitabın yazarının aynı kişi olduğunu daha yeni fark ettim. Surprised and delighted to find this book still available - a teacher read it to us way back in 1950ish and I see now that it has political overtones which escaped me when I was a child.

Very sadly she did not survive many years into my life and the flow of wonderful books, at least from that source, dried up all too soon.There, two opposing nations – one fat, fun-loving and easy-going, the other thin, acerbic, and disciplinarian – make war on one another.
