About this deal

All hors d’oeuvres and no meat; or all sweets and no vegetables, depending on the kind of people we are. A great comfort and reassuring book that sums up so beautifully what it is like to be a family woman wanting to balance family life but also have the time to be her to not just a housewife not just a mother but to also have the comfort of time for herself interests and also be able to love without the need to cling on , in other words to be able to give love, but allow those she loves to be able to have their own lives too , to have their own space time and interests and yet she will still love them even through distance you can still love .

Reading it again at 34 it was a like a whole different book and this time I was laughing reading it thinking. Putting her literary talents on display before an adoring public, Anne Lindbergh also produced a list of best-selling books. This book brings a great comfort its gentle calming approach is mother like and tender , almost like the feeling of being wrapped in a warm fluffy blanket .And so gradually, these chapters, fed by conversations, arguments and revelations from men and women of all groups, became more than my individual story, until I decided in the end to give them back to the people who had shared and stimulated many of these thoughts. And it is comfortable in its familiarity, its homeliness, like old garden gloves when have molded themselves perfectly to the shape of the hand. Green cloth quarter-bound to spine over tan boards illustrated with outline drawings of shells on front and back. Seamus Heaney had the idea to form a personal selection of poems from across the entire arc of his writing life, small yet comprehensive enough to serve as an introduction for all comers. First published in 1955 and an instant bestseller, Gift from the Sea is a classic, wise book for women about how to flourish in life, how to balance life, work, motherhood; about finding space to think and breathe.

This is often especially the case for women, whose traditional roles as mothers and wives dissipate vital energy while leaving little space for them to recover it. Anne Morrow war das zweite von vier Kindern des US-amerikanischen Senators Dwight Whitney Morrow (1873 1931) und der Dichterin und Frauenrechtlerin Elizabeth Reeve Cutter (1873 1955). As I started the book I thought "oh this is not the kind of book I like it's not for me" but as I continued I found so many nuggets of truth for me.Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what it was, nor forward to what it might be, but living in the present and accepting it as it is now. I cannot marry all of them, or bear them all as children, or care for them all as I would my parents in illness or old age. I think it would be impossible, in fact, to read it and not test its propositions against one’s own experiences — and not be tempted by its invitation to consider finding a new rhythm for one’s life, one that’s slower and more spacious. Every woman (especially mothers) should have their own copy to come back to at the right times to reflect and enjoy.

In varying settings and under different forms, I discovered that many women, and men too, were grappling with essentially the same questions as I, and were hungry to discuss and argue and hammer out possible answers. CONTENTS: I The Beach; II Channelled Whelk; III Moon Shell; IV Double-Sunrise; V Oyster Bed; VI Argonauta; VII A Few Shells; VIII The Beach at My Back. It was especially helpful to hear this because, one, she did have a creative vocation before her empty nest and yet, she still experienced the shift and two, she acknowledges that there is not even a hint of this among other women and books. In reading this I realized that I need to not only focus on continuing my own inner development for my own sake, but so that I can be an interesting woman, a mother more capable of giving, and a wife who will continue to grow with my husband rather than stagnate in the ceaseless pursuit of vital--but admittedly repetitive--household tasks. She does believe that marriage and family and even housework are worthy: she just struggles with how to meet the needs of all. Anne Morrow Lindbergh spent her final years in her Connecticut home, continuing her writing projects and enjoying visits from her children and grand-children.
