this is a great story and managed to incorporate realistic characters that were nearly perfect with believable imperfections that made them more approachable. Every square inch of the floor is covered by feet or littered with empty cups that skitter across the hardwood as people mill about. I liked that the FMC was a strong lead character, rather than a paper-tiger that looked good until a strong breeze. Hallie made it clear my lackluster “okay” wasn’t what our father was hoping for, but most of our conversation was her going on about how wonderful it is that our father is finally settling down with an age-appropriate, stable woman who’s just as boring as he is. I added the last adjective—boring—in my mind while I painted my nails bubblegum pink and scrolled through social media on my laptop.

When he admitted his feelings, like yeah of course we were getting there because it’s a romance novel but? Saylor had a bunch of family and friend stuff to work through in this one, and I didn’t blame her for her feelings. I always enjoy more time with the leads as a couple, though, instead of them getting together at the very end. It’s good if we only see Saylors personal development, but as a romance it was too much lacking for me. It was so refreshing to read for once how the superstar male lead was the one brought to his knees by the emotionally unavailable female lead.

The author masterfully builds the tension until it reaches a fever pitch as Isa finally begins putting the various pieces of the puzzle into place. Maybe I should have hated the sport after that; resented it for the loss that took place during the hour I kicked the black and white ball into the goal for the first time, clueless to the fact that my mother was speeding out of the town limits at that very same moment.She doesn't get attached, she never gets distracted, and she could care less what anyone thinks of her. Emma pours her whiskey and pineapple concoction into one of the travel mugs we use for transporting coffee to morning practice and claps a lid on top. The detail, the buildup, their chemistry, and everything that got them to their HEA was an absolute delight to read/listen to! Sailor straddles a line of almost being unlikable if it weren’t for the glimpses of why she is so cold and arrogant.
