About this deal

Around 200 years later, John Merchant has built the building witnessed at the end of Hellraiser III. Original EPK: (HD 5:12) This is a very brief, tried and true cast and crew interview material feature.

Being Frank: Sean Chapman on Hellbound: (HD 11:35) This is a nice follow-up interview with the actor as he gets to discuss the short time he had to work on the second film. Theatrical Trailer: (SD 1:37) Gotta love how a mention from Stephen King was enough to market a movie! Original EPK: (SD 5:58) I remember this feature from the end of my old VHS tape I brought from my hometown video store when they closed shop. Still, fun to look at all these years later. The two 5.1 remixes are rather unremarkable affairs. While the additional bass is appreciated and gives the audio a little more ‘oomph’, surround effects aren’t particularly convincing. Kirsty, Larry's teenage daughter, sees Julia bringing a man to the house and follows her to the attic, where she finds Frank. She evades Frank and escapes with the puzzle box, collapsing shortly after. Awakening in a hospital, Kirsty solves the box out of curiosity, and unknowingly summons the Cenobites and a monster called the Engineer, which she narrowly escapes from. The Cenobites' leader (referred to by fans as "Pinhead") explains that although they have been perceived as both angels and demons, they are simply "explorers" from another dimension seeking carnal experiences, and they can no longer differentiate between pain and pleasure. When they attempt to force Kirsty to return to their realm with them, she informs Pinhead that Frank has escaped them. The Cenobites agree to spare Kirsty and re-capture Frank instead, with the condition that Frank must confess to escaping them.

The Beauty of Suffering – brand new featurette exploring the Cenobites' connection to goth, fetish cultures and BDSM Compared to Starz's original 2009 platter, Arrow's 1.85:1-framed 1080p encode of Hellraiser has a much more organic appearance, with far more native film grain present. Contrast and clarity also take a major step forwards in quality, helping resolve additional fine detail. Shot the following year with many of the same crew, it's hardly surprising that the 1.85:1 encode of Hellbound: Hellraiser II looks very similar.

The Beauty of Suffering, a brand new featurette exploring the Cenobites connection to goth, fetish cultures and BDSM Hellraiser was initially banned in Ontario by the Ontario Film and Video Review Board. [20] [21] By a 3-2 majority vote, the film was deemed "not approved in its entirety as it contravenes community standards". It was banned because of its "brutal, graphic violence with blood-letting throughout, horror, degradation and torture". [21] In August 1987, Hellraiser was passed by the Ontario Film Review Board, but only after several cuts were made to the film. New World Mutual Pictures of Canada cut about 40 seconds to get the film passed with an R rating. Thirty-five seconds of an extended torture scene featuring hooks pulling apart a body and face were removed, as well as a scene of squirming rats nailed to a wall. [22] Critical response [ edit ]Under the Skin: Doug Bradley on Hellraiser – archival interview with the iconic actor about his first appearance as ‘Pinhead’ The puzzle draws the player onward until suddenly the puzzle is solved and the gateway is opened. As the puzzle is nearly completed, the sound of a large bell can be heard tolling mournfully. The sound comes from the realm of the Cenobites, and announces their impending arrival. Once the gate is opened, the box begins reassembling itself. Flesh is a Trap, a brand new visual essay exploring body horror and transcendence in the work of Clive Barker by genre author Guy Adams (The World House) FX Dailies: (SD 23:49) This is a very cool look at all of the practical effects done on set for the film. It's silent, so you don't get a great sense of what is going on outside of the scene. The Pursuit of Possibilities, a brand new 60-minute discussion between acclaimed horror authors Paula D. Ashe (We Are Here To Hurt Each Other) and Eric LaRocca (Everything the Dark Eats) celebrating the queerness of Hellraiser and the importance of Clive Barker as a queer writer
