About this deal

The author does a pretty thorough job of making you root for the stalkers or perhaps an oversized alligator from the lake with an overdeveloped appetite for self-obsessed teenage girls. Once, in homeroom, I slipped into my seat, coming in late after a student council meeting, and Brad Bain, who sat behind me, said something to me I'd never forget. Then she feels like someone is always watching her and claims she talked to the guys out in the woods.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. It had been sitting on my shelf for a year already by the time I gave it a try, and even then it was just the book I grabbed blindly on my way to bed for the night. One of my favorite chapters in the book is when the narrator recounts when a stalker an unrequited suitor showers her with ridiculous gifts and professes his love for her (and claims he knows she loves him back). Ultimately, the middle section dragged a bit, and I wanted to spend a little more time reflecting on the twist .It's way more fun to consume in the mindset of this is satirical and campy and the stuff that might make you mad is there on PURPOSE. The red Mustang, like a small shiny thought dipped in blood, sped between two walls of white pine that extended as far ahead as the eye could see and as far behind as the rearview mirror could contain. A dizzying riddle: If it hadn't been so pointless, we could have looked into each other's faces for an eternity and seen nothing but ourselves. This is the kind of book you take out for a spin when you’re tried of all the typical books you’ve been reading and are looking for something different.

J'y ai retrouvé un certain suspense, tout comme dans "Esprit d'hiver", que j'avais adoré, mais aussi l'habileté de Laura Kasischke à retranscrire les pensées et à décortiquer les relations, avec beaucoup de justesse. Of course, the stalkers somehow aren't through with the girls yet, not after getting a look at the three of them topless.Kasischke’s grasp of character and her skill at characterizing not just these three girls but the cheerleaders and counselors and small characters they encounter while at this cheerleading camp is so breathtaking that I was ten pages into the story and already felt like I knew them, like I was friends with them, huddled in the backseat of the little red Mustang with them, smiling at boys with them.
