The show itself has exploded in popularity in recent years, which means it has more (non-bootleg) merchandise that you can shake a razorblade-encrusted flat cap at. Overall, I would say Tommy dresses like an extension to his leadership style: lead from the front, pay for the best where it counts, but never forget where you came from. As you know in our historic menswear posts, attached soft colors became more popular over time even though, initially, the detachable collar made it easy to wear the same shirt and just exchange the collar, so you get that clean look, and your high-buttoning waistcoat would cover up the rest.
