About this deal

During his days in the hospital, he met his first love, who was also named Sam, but that special person committed suicide. EVERYONE saw Hikari’s fresh self-harm wounds, but instead of, I don’t know, getting her help, Sam KISSES HER, and then proceeds to cut their hair. But even if all that had been rectified, the fact that this book promotes self-destruction, insinuates that nurses/doctors are blind to/complacent about their patients’ issues, and romanticizes dangerous topics and notions is what makes this such an uncomfortable, disappointing read for me.

And then when Real-Sam died, does that mean Narrator-Sam had to wait at least nineteen more years to meet Hikari? Be bold and join The world is made up of two kinds of people, first are those who love classics, the second are those who have not yet read a classic. After they find out their lover has been lying all this time, they don’t yell or get angry or throw things like you want them to. But it's clear that she, and the characters, are not old enough to really begin to try and talk about what it is they're trying to talk about. There were countless times where dialogue would be split with paragraphs and paragraphs of monologues, and when a character would speak again, I would have no clue who was talking or what they were even responding to. idk if the author meant to show how they were soulmates through every life or whatever, but making the main character become the ghost of a hospital? Every character is complacent, willfully ignoring the signs and just letting each other wither away until it was too late.

Sam gives up his physical form after Hikari promises that she will continue to love him and come back to the hospital one last time before she dies. Sony, Neo, Coeur, Hikari and Sam all like to steal from the hospital cafeteria, the nearby gas station, among other things. Yes, metaphors and description and making things dramatic are important, but it’s just too much and I can’t stand to read much more.As a side note, I think some of the things the protagonist does or says are just straight up harmful. The second she saw me her frustration melted away, and we shared crappy chocolate and spoke of far-fetched dreams sitting on a cold hallway floor. The way the author captures this character’s development throughout the book is just breathtaking, because of how accurately she describes the healing process of grief, and how it takes time.

They make it, but Sony dies not long after; C dies when he goes into his heart transplant surgery; and Neo dies in the middle of the night after confronting his father. But what also bothered me about Sam and Hikari’s relationship was the fact that it seemed like Sam was trying to fall in love with her BECAUSE she was Real-Sam’s reincarnation. I know I can get pretty heated when I’m passionate about something, so I hope this review doesn’t contain much of my rage. Miss, I…” the gas station attendant interrupts himself, looking at the cigarettes and then back at her. I wanted to like this one, but unfortunately I found it incredibly confusing in its metaphorical, poetic language (which is usually my jam, but this writing felt more like a foreign language).
