About this deal

Argon Eon will draw more than a typical Raspberry Pi board, but considerably less than any NAS made from old PC parts. Ahead of the retail release we secured an Argon EON for review and put it through its paces during a week of tests and typical work scenarios.

i will try around with it a bit, maybe i will still get a little help with one or the other question regarding omv/docker. Whilst Argon have rated the enclosure at 10TB per slot, 18TB drives have been used and tested by the Argon team - however we assume the more reserved 10TB per slot limit is to allow headroom to account for the vast range of different disks with different power consumption ratings in existence.I’m just trying to install the scripts, however installation process hangs, apparently while starting argononed. But rather than another wedge shaped Raspberry Pi case bound for our desktop, the EON is bound for our living room, office or small business where it helps turn your Pi into a network-attached storage drive (NAS).

Perhaps the “move back” isn’t the best term for starting everything from scratch with the Argon Eon case, but it’s not my first Raspberry Pi NAS – so it felt back like going back to the roots.are attached to the back of the chassis via screws – installation is relatively simple, but if you are going to use big drives, remember you can use only 2 of them and both must be fitted to the ports on the inside.

Tom's Hardware is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. Now I'm not sure I should even go ahead with my plan to replace the Helios64 with the Eon - what's going to happen when summer hits and the office reaches 30°C? As I waved goodbye to my Synology Diskstation (on loan for review), I moved my stuff back to a Raspberry Pi-based NAS.Will probably back the new one - hell, it'd mean I could get rid of the ever-annoying Helios64 and clownshoes Armbian. A programmable OLED Display is neatly situated under the multi-function power button to allow for seamless integration with the case. I read a lot today in the How To's and the FAQ for the Nextcloud installation and i also tried the first installation but i failed.

You’ll need a path to your media folder, which OMV exposes neatly in the Shared Folder section – just copy that path, and bind it to your local container folder structure and you are set to go. The back edge is where all the ports are located and we see placeholders for the Raspberry Pi 4’s USB, Ethernet and a cutout for the GPIO. That, combined with Synology's quirky operating system, limited UI functionality, and downright exacerbating technical support steered me to QNAP, where I've not had any regrets since. The lower board is where our inverted Raspberry Pi 4 is connected via the GPIO, providing GPIO access via the external port. Moving away from NAS functionality for a moment, we have a Raspberry Pi 4 and this board is well known for the GPIO and Argon have provided a breakout on the rear of the unit. As my automation servers were moved to DeskPi Super6C Cluster – they have been not in use ever since. This gives us the fastest OS available and removes any need for a desktop OS, this NAS will live on our network serving files, not pushing pixels. I've also added the missing hard drive temperature monitoring feature: now it'll trigger the fan when the CPU or the hottest hard drive in the system reaches the target temperature, whichever comes first.
