About this deal

This book is ideal for anyone interested in insects but not wanting to restrict themselves to a particular group. Pictures are for sale or publication, all are copyright - please contact me for further details if you wish to use them.

It is a useful reference for family specialists when encountering species beyond their core knowledge. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. A comprehensive book packed with rich colour photos and infographics that explains all the main wasp families in detail . Small families have simple headers while larger ones have tables that detail the genera within them. Britain’s Insects: a field guide to the insects of Great Britain and Ireland is published by Princeton University Press (on 8 June 2021).

As they feed and grow young insects moult their skins often 10 or more times, with each stage known as an instar.

Enlarge the map for more detail, placemarks will act as a guide for parking at the location, route planning etc. Paul Brock has possibly done more to change how we see, recognise, grasp, understand, and, therefore, care about insects than any one else in Britain. The year started off with some amazing Waxwings and great Gulls before repeated trips to Devon provided an expensive Penduline Tit (find out why) amongst a whole host of local specialties like Cirl Bunting. In practice I've been a little bit disappointed with the coverage; in fact I've not been able to ID many of the species I come across in my daily walks and in my garden. At the same time, there is plenty of technical detail for the more serious or amateur entomologist and conservationist. If you need more, you’ll have to move on but you should be doffing your cap to Paul Brock for guiding you so far. Please note that audiobooks and ebooks purchased from this site must be accessed on the Princeton University Press app. Few people interested in insects wouldn’t want to have a copy, and it would be especially useful for budding entomologists and fascinated children.
