About this deal

With over 6 million of the world’s best eBooks to choose from, Kobo offers you a whole world of reading. Filled with page after page of details on thousands of the world's most prolific serial killers, as well of ones you will learn of for the first time.

Fascinating and informative, definitely one to read if you’re interested in serial killers from around the world and also other things like VICAP, Modus Operandi’s, etc. If you want to know just the facts about all these crimes, this book if definitely one to have on your shelf! Michael Newton's The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers might not have come into being this way, but then again, it might have.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. For instance, the 1996 book The Boston Stranglers based on the files of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts "Strangler Bureau" argues that those stranglings were the work of several killers rather than solely Albert DeSalvo as still suggested here.

The preface notes that the case histories are examples of specific serial killer types, motivations, nationalities, and other characteristics, because the more than 1,500 serial killers on record renders comprehensive coverage of every case unfeasible. You will find these killers and approximately five-hundred others in this first book in the series of The World Encyclopedia of Serial Killers. More than 240 entries and 70 photographs detail individual cases of serial murder from ancient Rome to the present day, law enforcement agents and their techniques, the factors that contribute to the development of a serial killer, and how society chooses to deal with and punish these vicious criminals. Updated entries and appendixes pair with more than 30 new photographs to make this new edition more fascinating than ever. While Shaefer was convicted for just two murders -- both of them grisly -- there was strong evidence linking him to many, many more: perhaps over 100.

I’m gobsmacked that this author didn’t include Myra Hindley and Ian Brady’s ‘story of horror’, but instead, relegated them to the appendix of the book in ‘team killers’.
