About this deal

Two bestselling authors imagine the boyhood of the man who became the legendary boxing icon Muhammad Ali. Greene, Steve (19 August 2022). " 'Bad Sisters' Review: Sharon Horgan's Murder Mystery Is a Sharp Family Story Spread a Little Thin". IndieWire . Retrieved 23 September 2022. Despite my usual love for Rebecca Chance's work, I did not like this book. I just couldn't get into it. Normally, I am hooked from the very first word of Chance's books but this I struggled to get into. But having known and love her work, I thought I'll get into it but that never happened. And the drinking game. I began to see phrases and punctuation marks show up mid "sentences". Some examples: "I swooned when I saw the most handsome 1-2-3 Cook man in my life." "I could not stop sobbing when '!' heard my sister screaming at me." I decided to turn this quirk into an excuse to down a shot of my favorite beverage.

Stephanie is running from her past. Even though she is under witness protection, "he" has found her. It was her testimony that put him away in a youth prison when he was but 8 years old ..and now he wants revenge. Her psychologist, Connie Summers, wants to help .. they even have things in common ... like they are both living under assumed names. I would like to thank #JACorrigan, #Netgalley, #Canelo for an ARC of #TheBadSister in exchange for an honest review. Bad Sister is the first book that I have read by Sam Carrington. That will be remedied next year in my plan to catch up on books that I have fallen behind on. I can’t work out if is a series but at least one of the characters appeared in the earlier book. When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. Years later, the sisters are barely hanging on to the scraps of their relationship. As another family celebration looms, long-held secrets come rushing to the surface. But someone is determined that the past will stay dead and buried, and will stop at nothing to prevent their mistakes being uncovered.Alongside this murder, there is another mystery that Connie seems to be embroiled in. Stephanie who is in the witness protection scheme is one of Connie’s patients. Stephanie claims when she was a teen her younger brother set the family home on fire, and killed her Dad. Now, years later, Stephanie fears for her life when her brother starts sending her letters. Being in witness protection means no one should know where she is. Connie takes this information to Stephanie’s police handler, who claims Stephanie is an only child and there is nothing in her file about a fire. Could it be possible that these two incidents are linked? Psychologist Connie Summers wants to help Stephanie rebuild her life. She has a new name, a young son and everything to live for. But when Stephanie receives a letter from someone she’d hoped would never find her, Connie is forced to question what really happened that night. But some truths are better left alone . . . The thing about being an older sibling is that you dont' realize how much you can hurt your younger brother or sister. I was a middle child, and while I dont' think my brothers ever cared if I got hurt or not, I certainly cared if I injured my younger sister. Falvey, Deirdre (11 August 2021). Clarke, Stewart (19 December 2019). " 'Catastrophe' Creator Sharon Horgan Cuts Exclusive First-Look Deal With Apple". Variety . Retrieved 23 March 2022. So - Bad Sisters. I'm a huge lover of audiobooks, so I nabbed this one and it's been my companion through chores for the last couple of weeks. By the time I was in the last third, I was doing as much laundry as I could, taking the dog for extra-long walks, and finding any reason at all to keep listening while I went about my day. It's engrossing. It's glitzy and sexy and full of family drama and dark secrets and murder. It's exactly as advertised, and I was completely engrossed. The title sequence depicts a physical Rube Goldberg style machine made from dangerous objects and props from the show that foreshadow narrative elements in the main storyline. [8] The sequence was mostly hand-made, [8] designed and made by Peter Anderson Studio. [9] [10] The theme music is a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Who by Fire" performed by PJ Harvey. [11] Reception [ edit ] Critical response [ edit ] Even though the story started off quite slow, it was still intriguing as I found myself needing to know why and how Connie's story connected to Stephanie's. It was revealed as a slow unravel throughout the book which was great as it definitely added to the suspense of the story. With every chapter that I read, the plot got more and more compelling and gripping. I found myself constantly guessing and read the second half of the book in one seating because I just couldn't put it down.

The Bad Sister covers sibling relationships in a family where there are no boundaries setting examples for the children and the horrors that this invites into their family home have far reaching consequences. The first half of the narrative was a bit of a slow burner but the second half had a faster pace as things started to come together. I did get a little confused to begin with as there were obviously things the author couldn’t reveal too early so characters aren’t named which did lead me to make some rather incorrect assumptions! But once everything becomes clear to the reader and the full distressing story is revealed, I appreciated being kept from discovering the truth about the situation too early. THEN: When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. I felt ALL the emotions during this one too - I laughed, cried, and curled up to the hubby a little tighter as I was blooming scared!!!! And those jaw-dropping moments, well they are just awesome!!!

Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is an absolute joy of a show. Did I just call a show about a group of sisters trying to kill their brother-in-law a joy? Yes, yes I did. It’s a high stakes feeling show without actually being high stakes, so it’s perfect during our very stressful current times. What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder. This story is like an octopus, with all its tentacles weaving independently this way and that way, yet somehow all connected. Everyone lies. That's sort of a mantra for law enforcement officers. And now it's up to those in charge to ferret out the lies, expose them to the light of day, and solve their case.

Need Help?

Brian Gleeson as Thomas ("Tom") Claffin, insurance agent at Claffin & Sons, which holds John Paul's life insurance policy. Thomas has recently taken over the family business, which his father mismanaged before dying by suicide. Knowing that settling the claim will bankrupt the business, he is determined to avoid a payout by proving the Garvey sisters guilty of foul play. There was a fantastic twist at the end. I thought I was at the end of the book and said “awwww no it can’t end there!! “ but there was relief when I saw the Epilogue lol!!

OK, so I'm in the minority here in that I really couldn't get into this book. I wanted to...I liked the premise and I really wanted to find out what the mysterious secrets were surrounding the sisters...but not enough to keep reading a book I was quite simply bored with. THE BAD SISTER began with an intriguing premise and so therefore, it had promise. But that's where it ended...because the story took so long to build any kind of picture that I simply lost interest. We start with two young siblings stood watching their father die in a house fire. This triggers a chain of events so terrifying that even I found myself chilled and tense! Nordyke, Kimberly (15 January 2023). "Critics Choice Awards: Full List of Winners". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on 16 January 2023 . Retrieved 16 January 2023.Bad Sisters, is told in different narratives by all three sisters, which I enjoyed as I got to know each of the characters individually and exactly how they were feeling about the situations that they were in. Each character is really well written and I found that I wanted to know more and was involved in the lives of all three sisters. Even though all the sisters have such different characters they are still all believable and fun to read about. Maxie was my least favourite sisters, finding her to be very self-involved, and this was Rebecca Chance’s intention. Devon, was someone I enjoyed reading about, sympathizing with her ongoing battle with weight, but I did find her to be very selfish at times. When reading about Devon and her husband Matt I was reminded of the British celebrities Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson. I do not know if this was Rebecca Chance’s intention but I found it hard not to compare Devon and Matt to this now ex-couple. Lastly, I sympathized with Deeely’s situation but did find her to be spoilt at times. As all these characters have faults that I didn’t like and aspects which I did, I think this makes the characters more real and human. I also liked the way in which Rebecca opened the book by telling us the sisters secret. I enjoyed this as it showed us exactly why each sister behaves as they do and it made me really route for the sisters. I liked the way in which each sister is shown to take an emotional and psychological journey as the story progresses. Then along comes patient, Stephanie. An agitated and paranoid girl, Connie really takes her case to heart. Stephanie is scared for her life, her psychologist Connie Summers, wants to help her face her fears but Stephanie has secrets, one of them being her real name. But then Doctor Summers isn't Connie`s real name either. Words can hardly say how much I enjoyed this book, it is one of the best that I have recently read. My whole Saturday afternoon was taken from me as I could not put this down. The book is full of suspence, the author slowly providing small pieces of information to the reader who is, if like me, asking all these questions as to what has happened and where is the story taking me.
