About this deal

I can't say this book is objectively bad. This is the first Bear book I've read, and he's clearly a talented and knowledgeable writer. I just really, really didn't like the style of this book for the following reasons: Frankel explores the long, rich history of dogs in the US military, from the spirit-lifting mascots of the Civil War to the dogs still leading patrols hunting for IEDs today. Frankel not only interviewed handlers who deployed with dogs in wars from Vietnam to Iraq, but top military commanders, K-9 program managers, combat-trained therapists who brought dogs into war zones as part of a preemptive measure to stave off PTSD, and veterinary technicians stationed in Bagram. She makes a passionate case for maintaining a robust war-dog force. The guard dog was incorruptible; the police dog dependable; the messenger dog reliable. The human watchman might be bought; not so the dog. The soldier sentinel might fall asleep; never the dog. The battlefield runner might fail...but the dog, to his last breath would follow the line of duty.

attributed to George G. Vest] "The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog." (p. 10) I inspected the stuff and it seems good,” Podrizki told him. “But dude, you know this is Chinese ammo, right?” Judge Lenard gazed at Diveroli for a long time. “If it wasn’t so amazing, you would laugh,” she said. Then she sentenced him to four years.

Just as they are about to asphyxiate, they are rescued by Teal, a runaway from a settlement of " Muskies", the leftovers of Earth's earlier, ambitious attempts to establish colonies on Mars. Club had misgivings about the film's slant and biographical omissions, writing: "One might quibble with the way Phillips limits responsibility on the Pentagon deal by painting AEY as better businessmen than they actually were [...], while avoiding the darker sides of the story..." [34] Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com gave the film two out of four stars, stating: " War Dogs is a film about horrible people that refuses to own the horribleness." It was also a bit rushed and "by the way". Then again, that could have been done on purpose to emphasize how people regard this as normal and not suspicious at all. Anthony D'Alessandro (November 12, 2015). "Warner Bros. Moves Todd Phillips' 'Arms & The Dudes' To Summer". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved 2015-11-14. And then it hit me. This was designed to be popcorn fiction. Fun and smart and fast-paced military action that comes full of massive angst and battle on Mars against aliens and even better reveals about what they're even doing there. I never got involved in the narrative, I never came to care about what was happening. Could be I was just burned out on heavy reads or it could just be that book didn't appeal to me. Either way not one I'm overly thrilled with. Not bad, but I was glad to get out of it.Shut up!” Diveroli would shout, the coldblooded arms dealer giving way to the pissed-off teenager. “You don’t know what you’re talking about! I made millions last year!” Molinet, Jason (April 30, 2015). "Jonah Hill spotted on set of latest movie looking noticeably heavier". nydailynews.com. Archived from the original on June 28, 2021 . Retrieved May 10, 2015. The combat itself is, as expected – at times exciting, at others scary and often rather confused, as snafu after snafu on the part of command and deployment makes the soldier’s job harder. There’s a few big weapons flung around, but the book is more of a reflection on the importance of the person in this role. Greg gets the slightly-sardonic tone right, that snarky world-weariness that is created by just having to cope and get the job done, despite everything that goes wrong.
