About this deal

If you like spirits which take on the flavours of the barrels they’ve been aged in, then 1800 Anejo is the tequila for you. A combination of French and American oak has muted the fresh grass and vegetal agave flavours of younger tequilas and brought in toasty spices and vanilla, coated in a honey and butterscotch sweetness. The world’s first smoked silver tequila, the creation of the clear liquid was sparked 200 years ago. It is 100% blue agave and its smokiness is achieved solely through channelling the complexity and richness of the environment.

The easiest way to smoke tequila is to pour it into a smoker. You can use a smoker that is specifically designed for smoking tequila, or you can use a regular smoker. If you use a regular smoker, you will need to add a few extra steps. First, you will need to create a smoking chamber out of aluminum foil. Then, you will need to place a pan of water in the smoker, and set the tequila on top of the pan. The water will create a humid environment, which will help to smoke the tequila. Let’s be honest, slamming a tequila from time to time is still fun, but the best-tasting, smoothest examples shouldn’t be smothered with salt and lime. Blanco or silver — call it what you will — but this is your entry-level tequila. If you insist on slamming, this is generally what you’ll want to do it with. Diamond-clear and un-aged, the best examples are fresh and zippy with a citrus spike. Some cheaper bottles will burn, but we’ve bypassed those for small-batch tequilas that are silky smooth. Reposado G4 is made by Felipe Camarena, another member of the famous family, and is named for his sons who became the fourth generation to enter the business. G4 Blanco is deliciously smooth, with the vegetal flavours of the agave enhanced by hints of exotic spice, tingling on the tongue and coating your insides with a comforting warmth.

Smoky mezcal is made in the same way as other mezcals, with the only difference being the use of wood-fired ovens. The smoky flavor comes from the wood-fired ovens, which gives the mezcal a smoky flavor and aroma. Two pounds of peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp, either Old Bay or Tajin seasoning, and freshly chopped cilantro. Hold the EMPTY bottle upside down over the smoke to completely fill it with the smoke. Immediately close the bottle with the stopper. Rooster Rojo Ahumado Tequila is a reposado expression made by roasting agave in an artisanal underground over for 48 hours, using stones heated with mesquite firewood. This category is aged for at least a year, but less than three, and is where you’ll really start to notice the influence of the barrel. Producers use everything from ex-bourbon to red wine or Scotch whisky casks to add subtle layers of caramel, toffee and oak on top of the fresh and peppery agave base.

Ahumado is what I would call a ‘democratic liquid’ in that it will appeal to a wide range of Tequila lovers. Well today we’re taking those simple joys and putting them in this Smoked Tequila Lime Burnt Ends Recipe, along with some tequila and lime. I made these smoked burnt ends out of salty, savory pork belly. You know what pairs really well with smoked and fatty foods? Citrus. Also, tequila… But I think you could make an argument that tequila would work well with just about anything. I'll get more into each piece of this set and why I freaking love it so much. But let’s take this one step at a time. First and foremost, if you’ve never heard of Dobel, you’re probably wondering who the hell they are and if they are worth being on your ‘to-try’ list. Dobel Tequila While not every version of Mexico’s most-imbibed spirit is imbued with smoky flavors, the most heavily smoked mezcals garner the most diehard fans. There’s a whiff of danger, there—and a seductively rich scent that can vary from burning herbs, to natural woodfire, to barbecued meats. One smoky tequila that is often praised is Fortaleza Blanco. This tequila is made from 100% blue agave and is distilled in small batches. It has a smoky flavor that is said to be reminiscent of roasted marshmallows.

A crossover between tequila and whisky isn’t unfounded: sipping an aged añejo or extra añejo is just as elevated and rewarding as any single malt experience (and a few tequilas already finish their aged product in American whiskey barrels). This Smoked Tequila Lime Shrimp recipe is quite unique, bursting with fresh flavor, and a meal or appetizer on the healthy (well healthy-ish) side. With a shared passion for preserving and uplifting Mexican craft, Mexico’s fastest growing ultra-premium tequila brand, Maestro DOBEL, commissioned Revolution of Forms to curate this year’s edition of ‘Celebrate Brilliance’. There’s also the relatively new ‘extra-anejo’ category (introduced in 2006) for the tequila connoisseurs out there. Aged for three years plus, we don’t see so much of it here in the UK. What's the difference between tequila and mezcal? Other simple serves include grapefruit soda for a ready-made paloma or tomato juice for a breakfast bloody Maria.

If you wanted to label it like we do beer, tequila is your commercial lager and mezcal is your craft beer. How to drink tequila in 2023 At this point, you might see how Lone River Ranch Water is the perfect fit for this Smoked Tequila Lime Burnt Ends recipe. I used their original seltzer, made with agave nectar and lime, along with some tequila and lime. Again, the sweet and citrus notes this adds to the burn ends is incredible. It brings a light freshness to the dish that would have been lost otherwise. What is mezcal, you ask? Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage made with maguey, which is a plant similar to a cactus but it is actually in an agave family. Mezcal is loosely translated to “ oven-cooked agave.” Thousands of years ago, the Aztecs fermented the sweet liquid accumulated in the center of maguey giving birth to what we now know as mezcal. What’s the difference between tequila and Mezcal? Tequila and Mezcal are actually not the same things! Although both are made with agave, mezcal is more of a general term for agave-made liquor. Much like scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey, tequila is a type of mezcal. So, is smoking tequila a good idea? The answer is no, it’s not a good idea. Smoking tequila can ruin the flavor of the drink, and it can also be dangerous. What are the name of smoked tequila? As always, a personal note. This tequila reminded me a lot in aroma and flavour of popcorn. Yes, I said popcorn. A weird one I know, how can tequila taste like popcorn? I don't know. Maybe it’s the butteryness or something. Either way, that’s what I get!
