About this deal

Nita is a morally grey heroine, and very complex one. She's not evil, nor is she completely good. She is very much a human growing up under her circumstances and I loved how her character and inner POV was done. This is the kind of main character I love to follow!

Oh, and Nita? I love Nita. I would die for Nita. Her character development is incredibly excellent. And also Kovit is… a character. I can’t spoil shit but I love them and I also really like a certain side character and I am so here for it. Super Spit: One of the things Nita's learned to use her ability for is to spit stomach acid at her enemies, as Gold learns the hard way. Reyes was Nita’s captor, during her time at the Death Market. Her relationship with her was as you could expect, captor and prisoner. Eventually, in an attempt to save [[Kovit] from being killed by Reyes, she shot her in the shoulder, leaving Kovit to bash her in the head as a finishing blow to her demise. After this incident, she sells her body parts to the market under the identity that it was Mirella's and not hers. Super Window Jump: The stairs are too slow when running from 2 people shooting at you, so Nita escapes from Gold this way in Only Ashes Remain (she opens it first).Nita doesn’t murder supernatural beings and sell their body parts on the internet—her mother does that. Nita just dissects the bodies after they’ve been “acquired.” But when her mom brings home a live specimen, Nita decides she wants out — dissecting living people is a step too far.

Nita wanted to look up if anyone has ever done MRI on a zannie and wrote a reserch paper over it, because she thought their neural connections must be interesting. I mean, the world is built really well in my opinion, because you're introduced to all sorts of monsters and knowledge about how the world works in the book, but it's all integrated in a way that never feels like an infodump or just being thrust into a bunch of words that you don't really know what they mean. You're also going to fall in love with Kovit, tho. He's the male protagonist and he's one of Nita's ... captors, more or less. His hobby is torturing people and eating their pain (what a perfect match lol). I'm not gonna say anything else about him because his characterisation is a joy to read. Also, get ready for an enemies to lovers slow burn. Señora Reyes was Kovit's former handler at the Death Market. She kept a distrustful eye on him because of his being a zannie and made sure to never give him cash lest he run away. They had no affections between them, and were seen as master and servant. Kovit and Anita eventually kill her with no hesitation, though when Nita cuts off her thumb, Kovit is a little disturbed. However, after that, they sell her body parts online without remorse.Regeneration: Nita has the ability to regenerate any physical injury, however if the injury is very serious she will not be able to regenerate it. Despite her dark tendencies, she tries to keep herself somewhat morally stable: Near the end of Not Even Bones she and Kovit talk about rules one must set if they want to stay morally "good" and not turn into serial killers. For Nita she decides not to hurt/dissect or kill anyone she cares about, since it's too late to swear off killing.

It is mentioned that they can increase or decrease specific chemicals and hormones in their own body, increase growth of harmed parts of the body, shut of the reception of pain, and heal faster. They are the only two known individuals with this ability. As Nita plots vengeance against Fabricio, she forces Kovit to participate in her murder and kidnapping schemes. Though hesitant and uncomfortable with her plans, he still complies in fear of losing her. This results in Kovit feeling used by Nita, believing that she only wanted him to do the dirty work but was disgusted whenever his urges to torture and feed arose. Their relationship becomes shaky, and he ultimately leaves Nita to return with Henry, although he is remorseful and apologetic for doing so. Of course there would be corruption in INHUP. There was corruption in everything. People had yet to design an incorruptible police force or government, or an incorruptible anything, really. You’d have to change human nature to do that."
