I hadn't previously known very much about Italy's history during the period of Mussolini's rise to power and then the German occupation so I am a bit wiser for having read this book. I really recommend this novel for one to understand the impact of war on civilians and perhaps gain an understanding of some of what the people of Ukraine must be going through in these current times. With some preference (economics, social sciences, archaeology, gastronomy) fruit of studies or passions.
