About this deal

Dust mites and other allergens can also accumulate in pillows if you neglect to wash and replace your pillows regularly. One study from the University of Manchester found that the average pillow that has been used for more than 18 months contains at least a million fungal spores. Wool: Wool is an all natural material which is temperature regulating, breathable, hypoallergenic and resistant to the build-up of bacteria. They are a sustainable option that supports the farming industry. Wool is biodegradable, too. For this test we worked our way through a constant rotation of new pillows, looking for those that helped us sleep better. The first thing we learned is that material is a key factor. Broadly speaking, there are five types that you need to know about: washable cotton, luxurious down, memory foam for support, modern microfibre and hybrids of two or more of those. See the FAQ at the bottom of this article for a full explanation of the pros and cons of each.

Similar to the Woolroom pillow above, I actually found it too high on arrival. You can remove filling from the Hypnia too, but it’s not quite as easy to separate the whisps of hollowfibre as it is to remove the wool from the Woolroom or the nanocubes from the Simba Hybrid. It’s a little bit firmer than the Otty Deluxe, but it’s not so firm that it feels clinical, instead landing somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. It comes with an inbuilt protector, plus a soft, breathable and hypoallergenic bamboo cover (which can be washed at 40°C), which helps you to keep things fresher than washing your pillowcase alone . The best pillows you can buy in 2023 1. Silentnight Just Like Down Microfibre Pillow: Best value pillow Silentnight is one of the largest and most well-known mattress manufacturers within the UK. With over 70 years of experience in the bed industry, Silentnight is by far one of the oldest companies still going strong. With this experience, they have continued to develop a wide range of bed products. Silentnight claim they are the UK’s most trusted bed brand. Knowing their long history of producing mattresses that suit all, it is difficult to disagree. If you have experienced overheating from your pillow in the past then a hollowfibre pillow could be a great choice for you. The fill material is not known for retaining too much heat and spaces within the pillow ensure there is good airflow in and out of the pillow.

If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list. This Emma Premium Microfibre Pillow is soft - but that’s not to say it also doesn’t suit side sleepers, who are traditionally better suited to firmer pillows. With so much height, I found wherever I lay, I still felt the support of the double layered cushioning inside, and importantly my head stayed aligned with my body. Front sleepers, also called stomach sleepers, best suit a medium-firm or firm pillow with a low loft to ensure the spine is kept in alignment. Memory foam or hybrid pillows can provide that kind of support.Follow the instructions on the care label of your bedding before washing, this will specify if that type of bedding can be machine washed and at what temperature. How to store bedding Just before we get into the detail of analysing the price of this product, we want to briefly highlight the importance of setting yourself a budget before you spend too much time shopping around for a suitable product. It’s all too often that we get carried away when shopping and find ourselves buying a fantastic product, but probably actually overdelivers on what we need and therefore costs a lot more than we should have spent. So spend a bit of time looking around at the sort of price you can expect to pay for products in the Pillows category and use that alongside your own financial situation to set yourself a budget. The movement isolation that this pillow provides would be average at best. If you are frequently disturbed by your partner’s movement during the night then a memory foam pillow may be a better option as these do not transfer movement as much. This would mainly be a problem with the mattress instead of the pillow, however. Trial and Guarantee Sumptuously soft as they are, down-filled pillows can present a problem for allergy sufferers. Scoom created this pillow with that in mind. It is made from a core of Hungarian goose feather sandwiched between chambers of goose down, but it is finished with a special sateen cotton cover that’s tightly woven and down and dust mite-proof to make it hypoallergenic. It is certified by the Nomite anti-allergen standard; you won’t get any pesky feathers poking out of this one. Despite the high-tech credentials, the Simba Hybrid feels surprisingly like a traditional pillow – much more so than some all-foam competitors. Unlike microfibre and feather pillows, which tend to be either soft or supportive but rarely both, the Simba Hybrid finds that sweet spot right out of the box. It’s worth noting, however, that unlike the Simba Hybrid mattress, there’s no trial period with its bedding products.

As you can imagine, pricing is one of the most important factors of any purchasing decision. We can find the perfect product for our needs, that fits the brief in every single way. But if it doesn’t fit our budgets, we simply can’t (or at least shouldn’t) buy it. Key features – Filling: Goose down and feathers; Cover: 100% cotton cover (machine washable) Sizes: Standard size and king size Hybrid: A hybrid pillow combines multiple fill types, the most popular combination being foam and microfibre. This way, you get the benefit of a foam structure to support your head, and fluffy fibres for softness. Just like Nectar’s A Whole Night Sleep pillow, the loft (or height) of the Emma Premium Microfibre Pillow can be adjusted by adding or removing one of its layers. The difference with Emma’s pillow is that it’s made from microfibre rather than memory foam. We found it much more “squishy” than most of its foam counterparts, so we’d argue it’s best suited to sleepers who prefer a softer pillow.

The only significant caveat is that to keep the pillow feeling its best, you’ll need to plump it up daily – something that’s not necessary with the foam pillows in this list. The cover layer of the Silentnight Just Like Down pillow is made from microfibre. This is a form of polyester which is super soft to touch but also very durable. Giving the pillow a soft feel greatly adds to the comfortable feel of the pillow and you relax in an enjoyable sleep environment. A bonus of using this material is that it is easy to keep clean. The cover is not removable but it does not need to be as the full pillow can be machine washed. Keeping the pillow clean and hygienic will help it keep its shape for longer. 2.
