About this deal

Our systems of money, politics, energy, medicine, education, and more are no longer delivering the benefits they once did (or seemed to). Now I’m feeling this, especially in this moment when I’m seeing all these people around COVID-19 and they’re pivoting, and they’re going digital, and they’re doing this and that, and I do not have an impulse to act like I do not know what to do in this moment, particularly I don’t have some brilliant idea. But if you can actually see it and know it, then you’re speaking something into realization that had been latent before. Despite the breadth of issues you’ve written and spoken about, there is a theme that runs through your work.

That any change that happens in yourself in your relationships, in your realm is part of a larger change morphic resonance, or morphogenesis says that any change that happens in one place creates a field of change. Even if one person listens and it’s the right person on a 500 year timescale that might have more impact on the world than if it makes a big splash, a big wave, a hundred thousand people listened to it.They are quite close at hand for ordinary people, because really what I am doing is to give voice to a new mythology that is rising in the collective consciousness. You know, and what’s like, I often think about what, what is going to be my impact on the world, the biggest impact is it going to be because of my books, where is it going to be? Other authors have also questioned Pinker’s metrics on their own terms: Is society actually less violent than it was in Medieval or pre-historic times? If we as a society hold those activities as worthy, then no one will believe themselves to be above such things. And as more people do this, it creates an invitation for other people to do this because the more people who do it, the safer it is to do it.

Before they are able to enter a new story, most people—and probably most societies as well—must first navigate the passage out of the old. It is a future for humanity collectively, and it is a future for each of us individually, and for every level of society between and outside those poles: intimate relations, community relations, political relations, ecological relations. Until recently, that has mostly meant being ignored and dismissed, a mostly benign neglect outside the corner of the culture that comprises my readers. Is it, you feel at home wealth is that you feel secure wealth is that you can go outside and, and you belong that’s wealth.I see the the truth that anything that I do impact everything else that we cannot be secure if there are other people who are not secure, like not just from a a graciousness perspective, from a reality perspective, like revolution happens and the walls aren’t big enough. And we, on some level, no matter how successful you are, you’re not going to be satisfied with, with power and money, because that’s not why we’re here in the old story. And we do see in extraordinary circumstances, like the COVID at 19 situation, we do see people cooperating. These include the need to express one’s gifts and do meaningful work, the need to love and be loved, the need to be truly seen and heard, and to see and hear other people, the need for connection to nature, the need to play, explore, and have adventures, the need for emotional intimacy, the need to serve something larger than oneself, and the need sometimes to do absolutely nothing and just be. I hope this book begins a serious, worldwide conversation on how we can reinvent our attitude to money.

And then to implement this understanding with a complete moratorium on further “development” of remaining undamaged ecosystems. I don’t, in fact, I actually have an impulse to stop doing and to to, to slow down and, and, and yet I feel my habituated response to life as a doer, I, I don’t generally stop. In a time of social and ecological crisis, what can we as individuals do to make the world a better place? Each level reinforces the other: Our habits and beliefs form the psychic substructure of our system, which in turn induces in us the corresponding beliefs and habits.

The things we think we want are often substitutes for what we really want, and the pleasures we seek are less than the joy that they distract us from. As we awaken to the interconnectedness of all our systems, we see that we cannot change, for example, our energy technologies without changing the economic system that supports them. The separation from nature, the money system that we have today that generates disintegration of community. He’s he’s like me, I’ll say in that he is thoughtful and has great ideas and also recognizes the challenges of living day to day, the, the ideas that he is committed to and that the challenges we have of, you know, closing that gap and recognizing that we come from a certain mentality and thought process and at the same time you know, kind of stretch and, and aspire to, to more so, Charles, I, I can’t say without further ado, cause that’s a lot of ado.
