The latest step in the Louth Distillery journey is that the premises have been opened up for the public to take tours and see where the magic happens, as well as trying out various flavours of Pin Gin, or even making your own bottle. Thomas Dakin gin has been recognised for its quality at many awards ceremonies including the Best British London Dry Gin in The Gin Masters 2018, a global competition judged by industry experts, and Best Gin in the prestigious The Grocer Drink Awards, the only competition to be judged by a mix of consumers and industry experts. Next time we visit Louth we’ll definitely be trying out the distillery’s Gin School. Using your own still you’ll be shown how to make your own personalised gin, and take away a 70cl bottle at the end.

I don’t remember exactly when I stopped drinking martinis but I do remember someone telling me that you shouldn’t drink gin if you ever plan on having plastic surgery because it does something to your skin. I know it sounds crazy, (that gin affects your skin, not that I would want to have plastic surgery…although I reserve the right to change my mind in the future) but that may have been a factor all the same. The still is charged with wheat neutral spirit, water and then the six botanicals carefully weighed and tipped into the still where they are left to infuse in the alcohol (at around 60% alc./vol.) for a 16-hour steeping period, usually overnight. All the botanicals are distilled together, according to the traditional London dry method.
