About this deal

The details of their relationship are gossip, but the way she relays the rest of her romantic history (which is rife with abuse mirroring her formative relationship with her parents) is what makes her a different kind of survivor. Julia Fox: renowned actress, artist, fashion trailblazer, muse, and now literary talent, is ready to tell her story, her way. Fox wrote when she first met "the artist," he sent a selection of clothes to her hotel room, all of which were variations on the same skintight, black jumpsuit. The book is written as if she is still the hurt teenager and, dare I say, the mean girl; there is no real retrospection. It's a narrative that's so full of struggle and tragedy but it never leaves you feeling weighed down if that makes sense?

This in some ways feels odd as the book talks about other ways some of these events had previously been turned into art that Fox could process some of these things through. She recounts her tumultuous relationship with her father, the back-and-forth with her drug-addicted boyfriend and the billionaire who became her sugar daddy. She more recently appeared in Harmony Korine’s Supreme ad campaign, dressed in a seductive flight attendant costume. But Fox’s book, “ Down the Drain,” only briefly engages with these developments, which turn out to be some of the least compelling aspects of her story. I heard about her interview where she said this book is a masterpiece, and while I know that's 100% subjective.

Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems ; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media. Usually, memoirs comment on the past from the perspective of their present selves, which is effective when the author intends to reflect and provide insight into how they’ve grown since. Already viral for its creator’s high praise, the pop-culture phenomenon’s first book, Down the Drain, chronicles the shocking life and unyielding determination of one of this decade’s most intriguing stars.Other pages are littered with graphic accounts of domestic and sexual abuse, beginning when Fox is a young child. But by the time I had finished this book, I was struggling to find a word short of “masterpiece” to describe it myself.

Her first background role in a film came when she was a preteen, but the movie was put on hold when the producer murdered the director. More than a year before the book's publication, Fox's description of it as "a masterpiece" in a red carpet interview went viral.Three weeks later, she saw "missing" posters with her face plastered on them around the city — her father did his best to get her to come home. Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media. In spite of the fast-paced writing style, Fox handles every aspect of her story deliberately and with care.
