About this deal

AP couldn’t get permission to use the pink label so it uses the green Chrysalis one. … if the goal was to duplicate the original pink label Island sound, this reissue misses that, which is good because this new double 45 reissue is far superior to the original in every possible way. The recording sessions for this album started in April ’69. One month later, the band scored their first U.K. hit with “Living In The Past,” which charted at #3 (included in the remastered release).. Starting with “Stand Up,” the band’s use of dynamics, Celtic Folk, and classically-oriented tonal structures, along with Ian Anderson’s flute playing and songwriting, became Jethro Tull’s signature. Simply put, “Stand Up” was the genesis of Tull’s sound and, not surprisingly, is one of Anderson’s favorite Tull records. Included in the many highlights of Analogue Productions' history are the Fantasy 45 Jazz Reissues, the Blue Note Reissues, and premium box sets of the music of such legendary acts as The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Nat "King" Cole and Norah Jones. Clarity, transparency, high frequency extension and especially transient precision are all far superior to the original. The 1969 Rolling Stone review was quite positive, stating that the album "has a fairly low raunch quotient, true to form, but it is quite marvellous" and also that "the album is not really funky; rather, it is a meticulously crafted work (no sterility implied) which deserves careful listening. At a time when many of the established stars are faltering, it is a particular pleasure to hear an important new voice." [17] The contemporary Disc and Music Echo review was less favourable; it considered the expensive cover the "most impressive" part of the album and Jethro Tull a good live band but still incapable of producing a "musically interesting" release. [21] American critic Robert Christgau reiterated his dislike of the band, but judged the album "adequate" in his Village Voice review. [20]Another difference between this and the other orange bullseye pink label pressing Jethro Tull - Stand Up is that the whole type set on Side One is printed slightly higher on the label; this is particularly noticeable when you look at the word STEREO, but in fact all of the type set is higher than that seen in Jethro Tull - Stand Up. On Side Two, the only obvious difference between the 2 orange bullseye pink label pressings is that the word "Produced" is slightly further away from the spindle hole on this pressing than on Jethro Tull - Stand Up. On their second album, Jethro Tull draws inspiration from a wide spectrum of genres, ranging from classical, to blues, folk, and even Indian music. And yet, despite the sharp contrast between these influences, the album always never comes across as disorganized or disjointed-a fine achievement.
