All in all, the nose offers a lot of depth and enough spice to balance the creamy, mellow characteristics. Speaking of spice, I’m reminded of pink peppercorns, a few powdered cloves and nutmeg, all mingled in with a soft fruitiness that leans towards baked apple.

In addition to launching the new bourbon, Jim Beam is planting white oak tree saplings in Bullitt County, KY this fall to show our appreciation of oak and the integral role it plays in creating our fine bourbons.Additionally, this is a great pouring bottle because of its firm, steady grip, which is important for bartenders. On top of that, the Double Oak is great value for money. Closing Thoughts Whereas with other bourbons one might traditionally expect ample sweetness and caramelized corn, Jim Beam’s Double Oak reveals a rather dry sensation at the tip of the tongue, almost like charred ash and burnt mint. It has been aged for 8 years instead of 4, resulting in a smoother and more enjoyable drinking experience. On the palate, the first sip brings warmth and prominent smoke, accompanied by a touch of oak char.

The finish is of decent length, with a slight bite and an earthy/ashy note, leaving behind a lingering taste of chocolate, corn, and oak char. Excerpt: I think they could have upped that richness on the palate by releasing this at least at 46% and NCF; 50% would have been even better. Regardless, the Jim Beam Double Oak is still a nice bourbon and I’ve enjoyed sipping on it ever since the bottle arrived.Honey, toasted oak and fruity spices. Vanilla, caramel with hints of dark chocolate cherries. Rich and smooth. Adding a few drops of water smoothes it out even more and brings a few more sweet notes to the front.

Oak, caramel, vanilla, toasted corn, toffee, and dark fruit with some light bits of butterscotch, cinnamon and leather trailing on through. The aroma is definitely the best part of this whiskey. The nose initially presents a strong presence of ethanol and smoke, but with time it evolves into a more inviting combination of vanilla and caramel. As bourbon tradition mandates, it undergoes a four-year ageing process in brand-new, charred American oak barrels. The extended maturation period in these fresh charred barrels imparts a heightened spiced oakiness and caramel sweetness to the liquid. This experience was a precursor to my venture into the liquor shop business, where I had the privilege of curating an extensive collection of liquors, granting me access to thousands of unique bottles from across the globe.
