About this deal

Suburbia also comes with a few main boards and a dual sided player board. The two sides was a nice touch because it allows players to either build their borough going down or going up towards the center. This may be helpful for gamers with spacial limitations. Suburbia is an economic and tile placement game for 1-4 players. Suburbia plays best with any number of players. Game Overview: Every players starts with the same 3 starting tiles in the same spots.

The population board has a number of red markers at various points. [5] Upon reaching each marker, the player loses a point of income, to reflect the greater costs of municipal services, and one point of reputation, to reflect an increase in crime and pollution accompanying greater density. [5] Another action that can be taken during your turn is to take a tile from the REM, flip it over, and place it into your borough as a Lake. (Every tile in the game has a Lakeprinted on its reverse side). Suburbia has a lot of options and tile interactions that players must consider. If there are players in your group that are prone to “analysis paralysis” the it could really slow the game down. This is exacerbated at higher player counts. It may not be an issue for your group, but it’s something to consider if you play with people who get boughed down when making decisions. This also tends to be less of an issue as players get more experience with the game. Is Suburbia Worth the Money? The game also comes with very good player guides which act as a “cheat sheet” to remind you of the steps to take on a turn and what to do when placing a tile. Brand

I’ve already tried to emphasize how masterfully Suburbia’s city-building theme is embodied by its mechanisms. I have to admit, though, that there is one aspect of the game where mechanisms and theme don’t really gel. It’s the Goal tiles, which reward bonus population at the end of the game for players who satisfy certain criteria – such as having the most lakes, or the highest income, or the fewest industrial tiles, etc. There is a lot of interaction between the player cities. There are tiles that will give you a benefit for other tiles in YOUR city, and some tiles give you a benefit for tiles in EVERY city. For example, if you have a slaughter house in your city you get additional income for EVERY restaurant built, not just your restaurants. There are tiles with both positive and negative effects that work this way, so you need to be paying attention to what is being built in your opponents cities. Very Strategic Add a new tile to the real estate market: Players slide all tiles to the right to fill the empty space and draw a new tile. This tile is placed to the left of the existing tiles.

This is mitigated slightly by the fact that the market board is in multiple pieces that can be placed together like I have pictured, or you can separate it and place the sections whenever you have room on the table. Possibly More Downtime at Higher Player Counts With a tile laying game, I didn’t have very high expectations for the components in the game. Most of the time you get some well illustrated tiles and maybe a wooden token or two. For the most part, that’s what you get in Suburbia. However, there are a few things included that make the game feel higher quality than your standard tile laying game. You can also take one of the basic tiles found center of the market for just the cost listed on the tile.
