About this deal

It's a great helmet that's comfortable to wear and it's got MIPS. The lights are an additional safety feature that take nothing away and are easy to use if you want to. The only downside is that Giro remains behind the times with micro-USB charging. Read more in our full review of the Giro Escape MIPS There are a couple of other options for riding through the night on this list. The Exposure Strada Mk11 SB AKTiv takes things to a whole other level when it comes to ultra-endurance endeavours. What that really means is multi-day events. You could make the Outbound Lighting Detour work and you could even make the Magic RN3000 work in a pinch but both of those options make more sense for something that is 24-hours or less. If you are covering more than a single night, there’s nothing that can touch the Exposure Strada Mk11 SB AKTiv. Varia radar lets you know when cars are behind you and it's not hyperbole to say it will change the way you ride. The RCT715 takes what is already an amazing light with an excellent radar system then adds the camera functionality. You will have to put up with an occasional false positive where the system thinks you had an incident when you didn't but it will never miss a car.

This mount can be attached to any round or semi-round tube with a diameter of 0.8 to 1.37 inches. Therefore, you can also use it for your seatpost and other tubes on your bike’s body. Best of all, this mount provides smooth GoPro footage even when biking through rough terrain. Strangely, while running through its functions before heading out, the light’s LED battery indicator was showing red, which is said to indicate 10 per cent battery capacity remaining.Regardless, this is far more convenient if you’re riding on the road at night, although without a remote it still requires reaching to press the mode button on the light’s top.

The GoPro Helmet Mount is the best helmet mount for biking because it’s easy to use and provides an excellent point of view. Since you place it on your helmet, the viewing angle is just a little higher than eye level. Therefore, it offers a beautiful vantage point where you can see the entire scenery and terrain ahead of you. As with all certifications, just because a light isn’t certified doesn’t mean it’s an issue. StVZO certification is a requirement in Germany. Outside of that market it’s not and as such it doesn’t always mean a non-StVZO light is going to blind everyone else. A good light will use an effective reflector to maximise brightness and battery life. Take care to aim it precisely and it’s unlikely to be an issue. There are also non-StVZO lights that prominently discuss the cutoff characteristics of their lights if you still have a concern. What is Lux and why aren't StVZO lights measured in Lumens? The Lezyne Macro Drive 1400+ provides a good peak level of output and a long run time for a reasonably compact unit. Always overestimate your needs and underestimate the specs. If you are trying to ride through the night on an epic adventure the last thing you want to start worrying about is an ever-dwindling light supply. Look at how long your ride will last then make sure you have a light that gives a comfortable buffer. Then bring an extra just in case.Always consider the size of your handlebars when searching for mounts that clamp on them. If the handlebars are large, it is possible that the mount will not be big enough to clamp down in a way that keeps the camera steady. Mounting Mechanism On the downside, the PGYTECH is nearly double the price of the Forevercam Handlebar Mount. For this reason, it might not be the best choice for budget-conscious bikers. Various handlebar mounting options are available, depending on the type of bike and light being used. How handlebar mount works The biggest negative is that Lezyne is still using an old style USB port. At this point almost every USB product I have has switched over to USB-C. Every time I have to charge a micro-USB device I have to hunt for a cable then unplug a bunch of already plugged in USB-C cables. It doesn't change what it's like to use on the bike but it's time for an update. Best bike lights for extra visibility The point I want to make with this question is that there are different needs for different people who are doing different kinds of riding. If you are riding through the city at night on well-lit streets you probably don't need a light to see where you are going. In that case, look for lights designed to help you stay visible to other road users. I labelled these with the intended use "being seen" and every rear light also gets that designation as a matter of default.
