Learning Outcome 2 – Understand how schools and colleges are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (RQF) has been designed to extend the work-related focus of the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (RQF). There is a wide range of optional units covering different aspects of supporting teaching and learning, which allows the learner a choice to select units in a specialist area, or to spread their choice of units across several specialist areas. The course provides an opportunity for learners to develop their skills and knowledge in helping children and young people in a learning support role. This is a knowledge based qualification assessed through tutor marked assignments and does not require a school placement.

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice. At diploma level, we recommend that the learner undertakes an additional 100 hours of placement to that taken at the certificate level in a real work environment, to total 200 hours. Learners achieving the Level 3 Diploma can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges, a foundation degree, or specialist roles within the workforce.

Qualifications

The Qualification is gained from your coursework so there is no exam to complete. On successful completion, students will be awarded the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning. This qualification has 12 Credits and is worth 8 UCAS Points.
