About this deal

We have been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 video monitor for 1 year now and felt we could now give an accurate review. Want to learn a little more about the DXR-8 PRO? Keep reading! Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO Baby Monitor Review It has a thermometer that monitors room temperature and displays readings on the parent device. This way, you can tell if temperatures are outside the safe range or not. Another great feature of this model is its 720 HD screen on the parent unit. Comparing to Infant Optics, the picture quality is much better and clearer. In addition, this camera can cover up to 1000 feet so that it’s suitable for bigger houses.

It has Voice-activated mode, which was absent in its predecessor. The screen remains in sleep mode with Vox mode (though you can still hear) and turns on if the monitor detects noise in the baby’s room. After our long-term review, we give it a record-breaking 4.9 out of 5.0, a fantastic score for a fantastic product! The camera was actually very light and we hung it up on the wall so it could capture the entire inside of the crib. Again, it was very easy. Display size: With a video monitor, there’s a big difference between watching a blurry lump and being able to clearly see your baby. The high/low temperature warning is a handy feature that could tell you about something like broken A/C or heater systems, but don’t rely on it for anything critical. The HelloBaby was the only monitor that let us set custom high/low temperature thresholds. Best video monitor: Infant Optics – DXR-8 Inside the box are two identical-looking power adapters, but they aren't the same. Each is clearly marked, one for the camera (5.9V) and one for the monitor (5.0V). There's an extra USB cable for charging the monitor from a USB port or a power bank. Missing from the Pro (but available in the old model) is an option to charge the monitor with a micro USB cable, so you'll need to buy another proprietary charger if you lose one.

No split screen view: Unfortunately, even though you can pair up to four cameras, the DRX 8 Pro does not support split-screen viewing like some in its class. But, you can set it to scan cameras every 10 to 60 seconds, or you can choose whichever camera you want to view. Since that time, it has found its way onto our annual list of the best baby monitors, fighting a fierce battle with the popular Nanit Prosmart baby monitor. We do still use the Infant Optics because it is always on. You could get similar results with a cheap audio monitor and the Google Nest cam. Not exactly the same because I can easily glance at the Infant Optics monitor if I hear something without having to wait for the app to launch on my phone. Rechargeable and replaceable 2800mAh battery that lasts for 10 hours in sleep mode and 6 hours in display mode. Another unique feature is the alarm function. You can lower the volume on the parent unit at night when you are sleeping so that you don’t hear every little noise in the baby’s room. Instead, an alarm will be triggered if the noise level exceeds the setting you entered. In addition, the alarm is loud enough to wake you up.

Table of contents

Unless you’re using your baby monitor while camping on the open plains, range is going to be measured in frustration rather than distance. Range on digital wireless devices is basically an all-or-nothing scenario. If you can see the video feed, it’s crisp and clear; once you go beyond the range of the transmitter, the video starts to go blank and you’ll soon get a “no signal” or “out of range” warning. The range of 700 feet is more than enough for most families who live in a condo, a town-house, or a single-family house with three to four bedrooms. One caution is that some parents mentioned that the wireless connection can become spotty or intermittent sometimes. Microwaves, routers, and other electronic appliances can pose serious problems to connectivity. Thus, it will cause the loss of beeping’ signal’ warning even when the baby monitor is in the next room.
