About this deal

I am far happier with Pedro’s Ice Wax and Boeshield T9 than with White Lightning, WL Race Day (junk — it precipitates and becomes unusable), or ProLink. — Richard M.

PROGOLD Lubricants Extensive Review - Bike Test Reviews PROGOLD Lubricants Extensive Review - Bike Test Reviews

I use ProLink regularly and I am convinced that it has greatly contributed to my chain’s long life. Shedding dirt, mud, gravel and sand is one of the most important functions of a good chain lube; the other is working into and keeping itself between the It seems a little silly to wax poetic about a chain lube, but this stuff is so good we think you’ll like it as much as we do. Prior to a training ride, I scrubbed the chain completely clean, then oiled with ProLink. 40 miles later, I put Results from wiping a clean chain with 40 miles on it.This is the second product I tested and used. I thought why not clean the dirtiest part of the bike, the chain. I had been using White Lightning. Perhaps putting ProLink over that was a mistake. Whatever, drivetrain noise increased and shifting deteriorated. I seemed to need to reapply after 100 miles or less, contrasted with 200 miles or so for WL. Do not use on paint, rubber and plastics. If using to clean chain, wipe frame immediately after use. ProLink Chain Lube utilizes metal friction reducers in a formula that won’t gunk up over time. This makes it ideal for chains, as well as other metal-to-metal interfaces such as pivot pins on front and rear derailleurs and brake calipers. Testing ProLink Light waterproof grease. Viscocity is a light/medium weight between that of TPS SBG-32 and regular bicycle grease.

ProGold Prolink Chain Lube - The Bicycle Chain

With a name like Boeshield T-9, it has to be good, right? This hybrid lube is designed for both wet and dry conditions. Meant to take off the grime slowly. Safe on paint, rubber and plastics. The longer the degreaser sits, the better it works. It's very good at staying clean during dry riding, attracting little in the way of grit and dust, and even after several wetter test rides it happily carried on working well. I usually oil a chain after most rides, ready for the next, but with ProLink it isn't necessary every time. To summarize my test results at the time I wrote this review, I have 3,200 miles on my chain and it was at 70% wear. I am convinced that ProLink Chain Lube contributed to this chain’s long life. The chain still shifts great and there is little wear on This is part of our 'Support Local Business' initiative, where we want to see local riders supported by their local bike shops. Xtreme is more waterproof than ProLink and ideal for winter racing/training – road, cyclocross, MTB. Xtreme can also be used in dry road racing conditions as well, but since it is more expensive than ProLink, and offering nominal advantage in dry conditions, I recommend ProLink for all dry conditions and Xtreme in hard-use/wet environments.

Bike Shine also protects against the sun’s rays that can dull and fade your paint over time. Safe for all surfaces on your bicycle. Bike Shine also leaves a residual coating that aids in repelling dust and dirt. I was looking for something similar to WD40 dry lube, which is a mineral oil based dry lubricant. Very little dirt attracted. This is just the same if not better. I was looking for something easier to get at the moment than WD40. I asked bikebudgie if they thought it was just the same, but they tried to get me to buy wax or teflon so-called lube. No Way! I want something that really looks after my chain and doesn't just spray off in one ride. Now, grab your other bottle of lube, Finish Line’s wet chain lube (Phil’s oil also works fine but it’s double the cost with no noticeable benefit) and apply a thin stream of that to the chain. Get it fully coated, but you don’t need a gallon of the stuff. Just make sure the rollers and side plates are covered with a thin layer. Wipe off the excess, good to go.Squirt’s Long Lasting Dry Lube is a wax-based lube that’s designed to–you guessed it–last a long time. I have been using Xtreme as well during my chain test and chain wear with Xtreme is identical to ProLink (in our dry SoCal environment). I really wish we had asked folks where they live to see if there is a correlation with trail conditions and their choice of lube type, because there should be a close relationship if people are choosing lube correctly. Still, it’s interesting to note that mountain bikers are pretty evenly split between wet lubes and dry lubes. (If you’re not sure what a hybrid lube is, you didn’t read Chris’s article yet. Do it.)
