About this deal

Alesis is a name renowned for the production of top-notch electronic drum kits. The quality of the brand speaks for itself as it is a go-to brand for many drummers who are users of electronic drum kits. They make electronic kits that are both suitable for the young beginner and kid drummers and the advanced drum player, each perfectly tailored to meet the needs of each class of drum player. With the use of music software, it’s easy to record your performance and use VST Instruments. I suggest doing so, as the sounds included with the Turbo Mesh are not the greatest. Let’s Talk About the Sounds You have two different types of outputs on every drum module we make- your main audio outputs and your USB output. These have very different functions and are going to determine how you proceed. Your USB output is only going to send the raw midi messages from your hits to your computer. That means information like what drum you hit, how hard you hit it, and how long you let the note ring. It does not include the sound. A mesh head is made from a stretched material to create skins similar to those found on an acoustic drum kit. They are very much suitable for beginner drummers to learn and practice with as opposed to kits with a rubber head. As the name suggests, the Alesis Turbo Mesh Electronic Drum kit was produced using the next-generation Alesis Mesh head drum technology. It comes with 10 different drum kit presets which include 4 electronic drum kit sounds, 4 acoustic drum kit sounds, an Afro-Cuban sound set and a Chinese sound set. These different sounds enable the drummer to try different new things while getting familiarised and developing his drumming skill.

It’s not intuitive, but it is one way to get bell sounds out of a dual-zone cymbal pad. It’s not my favorite feature. Credit subject to status and affordability. Terms & Conditions Apply. Guitar Guitar Limited is a credit broker and is AuthorisedSimilar to the pads, the cymbals also feature different samples for the varying velocities. If you hit the bow of the cymbal hard, a bell sample plays. The hi-hat controller functions decently as a stand-less controller, similar to other Alesis kits like the Surge Meshor Nitro Mesh. That said, it’s nowhere near the level of hi-hat controllers that utilize a stand. The Module Another benefit that’s standard on most modules today is the aux input. Using your phone, tablet, or laptop, you can easily jam along with your favorite songs from Spotify, or play along with lessons on YouTube. USB/MIDI Functionality Pump up the volume or practice in silence – whatever your preference, the Turbo Mesh Kit gives you exactly what you need. With a 1/8-inch headphone input, stereo ¼-inch TRS inputs and a 1/8-inch aux input, hassle-free rehearsals, practice and recording sessions couldn't be simpler! Drums and Drummers come from a wide spectrum of people, but anyone who uses an electric kit has done so under a very simple premise- Mic-ing acoustic drums is not fun. But when it comes down to how you actually want to record your drums, a few options open up. This guide will help you navigate them.

Software sample libraries like Addictive Drums 2 and EZ Drummer improve the sound of the kit dramatically, but you’ll need to use a computer and buy the software. The samples sound dull and lifeless to my ears. For practice, this shouldn’t be much of an issue. Velocity-Sensitive Sampling The included cymbal pads are all 10″ in size and are dual-zone, giving you both an edge and a bow sound. The cymbal pads aren’t impressive but do get the job done for a kit in this range. Included Pedals The Turbo Mesh electronic drum kit includes seven-pieces and mesh drum heads. As I’ve stated in other articles, mesh heads are now the standard on electric sets. The module of the Turbo Mesh couldn’t be more simple. There are just a few buttons with ten included preset kits. A total of 120 drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds fill the module. The drum module. The drum coach-mode has five different exercises to help with sharpening the skills of the drum player with regards to playing in time, stamina and strength, and groove tempo. Playing on the kit will give a feel and experience similar to playing on an acoustic drum set, with the way it is set up and the fact that it is made of mesh head further enhances this experience. The cymbals are fully shaped and nut half cut out like some other low priced electronic drum kits like the Yamaha DTX450K.

The Alesis Turbo Mesh Electronic Drum Kit is one of the newest e-drums to come from Alesis' critically acclaimed all-mesh drum kits in 2018. If you are looking for bang on performances time after time that leave your audience reeling, then this is certainly a kit to consider. As with all, all-mesh Alesis kits the responsive, authentic feel makes the drumming and audio experience expressive and powerful. Please also note that every pad on your kit is assigned a midi note that may need to be changed to trigger the right sample in the program you are attempting to use. Your user guide will have more information on changing the midi notes for your individual kits, but you may need to go to the program's manufacturer to find out what those midi notes are. Although the drums are quite small in size, it is adjustable for different size of drum players. It is very easy to set up the kit and get it running as the assembly guide gives a detailed explanation on how to set up each part of the kit seamlessly. Mesh heads in recent times have been regarded by electronic kit drummers as the best drum head to play and practice on. The reason is not far-fetched as mesh heads are known for their authentic feel and natural bounce response and sensitivity to strikes on it. For example, my kit, the Alesis Strike, doesn’t even have great sounds to my ears. That kit is 5x the price of the Turbo Mesh and has a much better module. The Alesis Turbo Mesh Electronic Drum kit is a seven-piece drum kit consisting of cymbals and mesh head pads produced with the next-generation Alesis Mesh head technology, to give clean, crisp and realistic sound output close to what is obtained on an acoustic kit. All four pads have tunable tension rods, allowing adjustment of the head tightness. Mesh heads are often very bouncy, so bringing them down a bit can sometimes help feel more natural. The Cymbal Pads It has 12 rubber buttons asides the power button and volume control button, for programming functions and carrying out operations and settings on the drum kit. It also has a small LCD screen in between the power button and the volume button, for displaying ongoing functions and operations on the drum kit.

Both connections have their positives and negatives and it's important to do your own research before you try one or the other- an interface will probably cost as much as a good drum plugin that is on sale; the real difference being that Midi notes can be edited and quantized for mistakes and mixing, whereas you get you get what you get from your audio output and you will need to do your mix of the drums before you begin recording.
