About this deal

Ya... This book wasn't for me😅, for many reasons. It felt like a bit of a washed down version of Aiden's trilogy mixed with Broken Knight by LJ Shen and a couple other books I can't think of right now. Then the big revelation came, which was pretty obvious, and I just liked this book less. I've read multiple books/series where the revelation is a plot device or the main plot (still scarred from The Mortal Instruments series tbh), and I am currently watching a show where it was used as a plot device, so I am even more annoyed that that was the big reason he hated her and caused her to suffer for so many years, which is still inexcusable in my book. This story is raw and real- and Rina doesn’t just scratch the surface of dark and heavy subjects or experiences as an exploitative plot device. Rather, she brings them front and center, unmasks and exposes them and asks us to sit in them as our characters do- to breathe their air. This story hurts, it's painful, it's visceral- but in that you find emotional resonance, some peace and hope- either because you see aspects of your own journey or because she has so richly, tenderly and carefully crafted dimensional characters whose feelings have almost become your own. (or in my case, both). That said, there are multiple triggering subject matters dealt with- this is not sensationalized, it feels personal and gritty and real. Rina has been very proactive in sharing a warning with this book, which some readers may need to heed. I’m not sure I would call this a bullying romance, although bullying is involved. But H’s bullying is not typical bullying and when you will find out why he did and said the things he did it will blow your mind but you will understand. This book was D.E.V.O.U.R.E.D by me. It was so gorgeous it hurt. It’s no secret that I’ve been waiting for Xander and Kimberly’s story, and now that I’ve finally read it, I’m pleased to report that it completely floored me and brought me to ugly tears. The style of this book’s writing was unlike anything the author had done before. It had a mellower and more heartfelt tone. After understanding just how broken they were, my heart ached for them both, but Kim in particular.

Cole, even when you see from his pov everything is quite but deadly. But he is full of surprises , I really coudn't keep up with his brain . Nana left me in a moment, too. She was sitting with us one minute, and the next, her heart stopped. She was there, smiling at me, giving me gelato and telling me a story, and then my only grandmother was gone. Since they were little a special bound was formed between them , a bond made with "ropes" that will destroy and save them at the same time . Secrets were the glue that kept them together no metter what. Oh, and one thing I absolutely wanted to read more of is about how Xander dealt with his attraction with his REDACTED for 7 years before he found out the truth. Kimberly is a wallflower; she’s reserved and quiet but also quirky. She has low self esteem but throughout the series blossoms into a confident young women after being through hell. All in all, Kimberly is very kind.As I stand there watching Aunt Samantha’s car rolling away and Xan running after her with his short legs, my chest becomes painful, the same as it did when Nana left. My life has become an image. I act a certain way, speak a certain way, and even walk a certain way. I have to sway my hips gently, but I can’t walk too slow like a slut or too fast like a nerd. When I was just starting to read this I told myself that maybe this would be just a three-star read, because I don't like this genre. I don't like complicated conflicts in which I am sure no one can escape without a damage to the characters. I also don't liked the two main characters at first, when they are introduced to the other horsemen's story. They seemed so toxic and chaotic. ( Cole's word not mine). They were in each other's throat all the time; they were both stubborn, secretive, and proud- in short all of the traits I loath for a Main Character.

His foot catches and he tumbles forward, falling to his knees, crying so loudly, I feel every sound in my bones. This is by far the best audio in the entire series, even though the narrators are the same (which is perfect!). I groan as I place my hand on his chest. Now that he’s put the idea in my head, I’m so sure I will. The gelato is now dripping on the ground, and I would usually devour it all, but my entire focus is on Xan and how he can’t stop sobbing. There were a lot of other things that I loved about this book! Like the added humour of Ronan had me laughing so hard! He is the most funniest character I have ever met and I just wanted to grab him out of the book and hug. Teal might end up killing me for that though.

Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit. She did that. She freaking did that. I can't believe it. I went from an apprehensive reader to a rina-kent-can-have-all-my-money-for-this-masterpiece reader. She is that good people! I have been waiting for Xander and Kim’s story since Deviant King when Elsa befriended Kim on her first day of school at Royal Elite. Elsa saw a kindred soul in Kim, someone who was doing her best not to be noticed and was lonely like her. Though Elsa was targeted by Aiden and the rest of the four horsemen (the Kings of the school and the team’s football heros). It soon became apparent that Kimberly used to be in with those people but something occurred to change things and now she was hated at the school and Xander Knight who lives across the street from her was her main bully. This series gave me so much , I took with me something from each characters and i'm starting to understand that everyone wears a mask , you just have to find the right person who's disposed to drop it for you .✨

To be fair, she is very similar to the previous heroines before her, (Rina Kent loves to write heroines who can't control themselves for some reason,)Kim has been body shamed and bullied her whole life by her own mother and at school. Xander also played part in tormenting her too. They were close and best friends once but then something happened and Xan cut himself off from her. He was someone she really trusted, so when he pushed her away she thought it was cause of something she did in the past and has blamed herself since. The only reason she wakes up in the morning is ‘cause of her little brother Kir ( who was freaking ADORABLE ). She will do anything for him. She’s close to her Dad but he’s always away on business. Am I super excited knowing their daughter ends up with Jeremy?? Yes. My favorite Elite couple and one of my favorite book couples uniting as in-laws? Perfection. Xander having to give up his only child to a Russian mobster? Epic. Flavorless heroine. Silver was pathetic, no soul, nothing in her nogging except some nonsense about how Cole's green eyes remind her of the top of trees... okay...? Once Elsa began dating Aiden, Kim was sort of accepted into their group, in that Elsa insisted Kimberly come with wherever she was invited. So Kim started attending Ronan’s parties, as well as the weekly football games where they all get together in the theatre room in Aiden’s house to watch his cousin’s pro team play on the big screen. My knight, she used to call me. Now, I'm a rusty one without armour or a sword. I abandoned being her knight to become War."
