About this deal

Ease of use: As we performed the heating tests, we noted any difficulties with filling and transporting the kettle, as well as with the controls for electric models. We specifically evaluated pouring by using a full kettle to fill a mug on the counter. Models that splashed and spilled lost points, and more accurate spouts gained them.

The OXO Classic, does fairly well solve these problems, although it is still best to take it off the burner a few seconds before pouring. The lid O-ring seal does a good job of sealing the lid except under extreme boiling (unnecessary and unwise anyway to use more heat than necessary). And it is best not to remove the lid until the pot cools down. The shape of the lid, especially its hollow rim (the bulge above the O-ring seal) traps about a half cup of condensed steam, and I've not yet succeeded in removing the kettle lid - which is a tight fit and takes some force to remove - without splattering this condensed water. Even tipping and shaking the kettle won't get all of it out before you take the lid off. This is another good reason to cool the kettle before removing the lid, and for drying the inside of the lid well after use. I have been using the kettle daily for 6 months and recently have experienced what seems to be a weakening of the "spring" (a flat metal strip) that holds the whistling spout cap up when you depress the lever. As a result, the cap sometimes flops down when I'm pouring, and that splatters hot water. It doesn't seem possible even for bigger hands than mine to hold the kettle and the spout latch with the same hand, and besides, with when pouring, some steam does come out the spout too, and also around the cap hinge, so you don't really want to be holding the cap latch lever, even if you can use both hands while pouring, which is very awkward. A more positive latching mechanism is needed to keep the cap open while the kettle is tipped for pouring. With its combination of style and performance, the Fellow Corvo EKG Pro Studio Edition is one of the best electric kettles you can buy. It's equipped with an array of features—like a built-in stopwatch and temperature holding up to one hour, just to name a couple—and yet the item remains intuitive and easy to use. The Fellow brand sent us the kettle for testing purposes and we were highly impressed by the results. And the quality of your tea kettle can affect how your tea tastes. Shunan Teng, the founder and CEO of Tea Drunk, told us that an incorrect water temperature is one of three main brewing mistakes that prevent tea from reaching its best flavor. The other two mistakes are, first, brewing for too long or too short and, second, using too much or too little tea. The Cuisinart PerfecTemp tops our list thanks to its fast boiling time, sleek design, and ease of use. As a cheaper alternative, the Hamilton Beach Electric Kettle is another worthwhile option with six preset temperatures options as well. What to Look for in an Electric Kettle Features This elegant stainless steel electric kettle holds 1.7 liters and has six preset heat setting for steeping different types of tea at the proper temperature, even if you can’t remember what tea needs which temperature. A blue LED indicates when the water is ready and the 30-minute keep-warm feature holds the temperature in case you’re not quite ready to brew. OXO have been making thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use household utensils and items since 1990. The brand takes a closer look at everyday objects and activities, then decides how to make them simpler, faster and easier through intelligent design and subtle tweaks. OXO utensils are friendly, functional, high-quality and can make your everyday life that little bit easier.

Many electric kettles are simple: hit the switch, wait for the water to boil. But you can also find kettles with a number of convenient features, including preset drink options, temperature holding, and automatic shutoff. Figuring out what features you want will also provide a clearer idea of your price point. This is a highly functional kettle, but a downside we found is that the lid can be difficult to remove. It's certainly more expensive than average, but we think it’s a worthwhile splurge, especially because of its durability and the brand's five-year guarantee to cover manufacturing defects. Boil-dry protection is a safety feature that some electric kettles are equipped with. The kettle automatically shuts off if it sense there's no water inside. This protects the kettle and its heating elements from damage like warping or melting. Value: After concluding all of our other tests, we revealed the retail prices of the kettles. Stovetop kettles are generally less expensive than electric ones, so we looked at the categories separately, comparing individual prices to the average for each type. Since it isn't intended for soup (get a saucepan or soup pot!) or other liquids, there should be no need for it to fit in a dishwasher. (I don't have one of those, except me.)Decide whether you’d like a model that also has an infuser for use with loose and blooming teas. There are tea kettles that have built-in infusers, as well as pots that have removable infusers. You’ll even find units with an infuser basket that can be placed directly in your teacup. Chantal Anniversary Enamel on Steel Whistling Tea Kettle: This stovetop kettle has a similar look and is available in a similar assortment of colors as the Le Creuset model, which was our top choice, but at a lower price. However, it performed somewhat worse on our tests. Ease of cleaning: After boiling several rounds of water in the kettles, we washed them following the manufacturers' directions, noting whether there was any mineral buildup in the kettle or spout, or any stains on the interior or exterior. With electric models, we also noted any difficulties cleaning the heating base or other parts that can't get wet. The large opening for filling and cleaning as well as the tight fitting lid are the best features of this kettle. Note that this product is a tea KETTLE, not a tea POT; it is really not intended for making (i.e. steeping) tea, or for heating soup or other foods, etc. It is best used just to heat or boil water. That's what I use it for. I either make the tea or coffee in a cup or a ceramic pot.
