About this deal

Scrape off old plumber’s putty or caulk from the top of the drain opening as well as under the rim of the flange. Remove old sealant. Scrape it off with a putty knife or cutting tool. Make the job even easier with UniBond Silicone Sealant Remover. Both silicone caulk and plumber’s putty however don’t last forever. The seal will after a few years (depending on how well it was installed) break and the sink will start to leak from the bottom/underside. Again, excess plumber’s putty or caulk will squeeze out from around the flange as a sign that you have a good seal. Scrap it off with a putty knife. The kitchen sink basket strainer plug for our double bowl sink had been leaking for a couple of months and it was driving me batty. It made washing up difficult because the water would drain away while washing up the pots and pans. Even more frustrating was when both plugs stopped sealing, so we couldn’t swap the plugs. It’s one of those things you don’t realise is annoying until you have to fill the sink and you can’t. But you soon forget until you need to fill the sink again!

Disconnect the pivot rod from the drainpipe. If the connection is not hand tight you can use a wrench. Pull it out to free the stopper. With the pivot rod out of the way, you will only need to lift off the stopper from the top of the sink. Our collections by our couriers are happening as usual. As it stands, delivery times are not being affected too much. Please be aware though that Royal Mail and other couriers are sometimes prioritising essential items so please bear with us if your delivery takes slightly longer than expected. There are a handful of ways you could do this. I decided that instead of drilling a hole for another waste pipe, I linked my washing machine hose to the sink. If you decide to use silicone caulk, apply a bead of the same under the rim of the sink flange as well as around the sink drain opening. Carefully insert the flange through the drain opening and push it down strongly to get a strong seal. I needed to cut a series of waste pipes and elbows first while also ensuring my waste pipe wasn't too steep. The P-trap also traps potential drain clogs. This prevents them from clogging up the drainpipe farther away where unclogging it would be harder.

The only thing that worked, was putting pressure against the plug with my fingers, while the sink filled up. When the sink was ¾ full, I could release my fingers and the plug would seal. I didn’t want to have to do this every time I filled the sink though. Here's a step by step guide on how I fitted the kitchen sink waste pipe and trap in my utility. It also includes a trap connected to a washing machine hose. Clear the space under the kitchen sink. If you use the space under your kitchen sink to store stuff remove them to allow yourself enough space to work with. I now have a working tap and sink that I can use when cleaning up after food blog cooking sessions at Tastefully Vikkie. More Fitting a Kitchen Projects
