About this deal

John Sweeney has a long career in investigative journalism and as such his experience of and interest in Russia and Putin helps to create a very readable and useful book.

Prior to its airing, video footage filmed by the Church of Scientology was released that showed Sweeney shouting at Scientology representative Tommy Davis during a visit to CCHR's "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death". In a disturbing expose of Putin's sinister ambition, Sweeney draws on thirty years of his own reporting - from the Moscow apartment bombings to the atrocities committed by the Russian Army in Chechnya, to the annexation of Crimea and a confrontation with Putin over the shooting down of flight MH17 - to understand the true extent of Putin's long war.The death count of his rule is horrifying and cruel - the sneaking wide powers of the FSB are truly something to be feared. His hunch was right, and he successfully “doorstepped” the leader by walking up to him and asking: “Do you regret the killings in Ukraine, sir? To live in a democracy and try to understand that your demise could be just a few words away is beyond the understanding of those of the free world. But he also wanted to capture “all of the reality” of life in Ukraine and saw himself as a “weird kind of canary in the coal mine”, showing that “the electricity was still on, the internet was still on”. Sweeney takes us on a chronological tour of Putin's rise and rise in Russia, plotting corruption and dark, evil and suspicious events in the Russian Federation and around the world along the way.

Far too many do not take into account the evilness of Putin and the deaths that he has not only caused but actually directed.Common to all three mass killings inside Russia was a total lack of transparency about the investigations into what took place. Sweeney's investigation helped to clear their names, and led to Sir Roy Meadow, the expert witness whose testimony had proved decisive in their convictions, being temporarily struck off the General Medical Council's medical register. Killer in the Kremlin is a detailed and shocking account of one man’s rise from poverty to almost certainly the richest man in the world. At its best it points to some of Putin’s most execrable traits and at its worst elevates the author to the position of the book’s leading character. No one is completely sure but a history of events sure gives us a good idea of the evil that is Putin.

He accused Putin, previously head of the FSB security service, of conspiring with agents to bomb Moscow apartment blocks in September 1999, blaming the 307 deaths on Chechen rebels and using this as an excuse to launch a full-blown war against them.John Sweeney is a distinguished award winning investigative journalist, working in the past for many news outlets including BBC’s Panorama and Newsnight as well as Channel 4’s Dispatches.

But their 2018 meeting was only weeks after the Salisbury poisonings – when Russian agents attempted to murder a former agent with the nerve agent Novichok and ended up killing a British woman, Dawn Sturgess – and shortly after a Nato meeting to determine the West’s response. Ashley Grossman, professor of endocrinology at Oxford University, suggests this could be a sign of lymphatic cancer. Sweeney labelled the clips "attack videos" and others say they were produced to discredit himself and the documentary.Have you ever received money or favours in kind from the Lebedevs beyond the ones that you’ve declared? Alexander Litvinenko claimed Vladimir Putin was filmed abusing children in a flat in Moscow in a sensational web before his death by radioactive polonium poisoning.
