About this deal

Much like the book-press method, a homemade or store-bought wooden flower press can give you fabulous results. (Plus, you can decorate a wooden press or customize it to match your style-BONUS!) Supplies: Cut blooms and leaves as desired. You can either cut them off right below the bloom, or leave on the stem if you’d prefer. You may need to trim the stems, however, so they fit in the microwave. For leaves, you can leave them on the stem or pull them off and dry them individually. You can use your pressed flowers in many crafts. They work wonderfully on bookmarks, cards and in picture frames. This is another fast way to preserve the color of the flowers. But the disadvantages are that the actual flower is not preserved and that the hammered flower print on fabric is not washable. It is best done for decorative purposes. Still a favorite though. 5. Pressed flowers with iron? A classic flower press that comes with rubber legs or nubs will protect your counters and furniture from scratches or damage.

These items contain layers of paper held between two sturdy wooden boards, commonly held together by bolts and wing nuts, cord, or elastic straps. After the initial 20-30 seconds, place the flower press on the dishcloth. Take the top platen off the flower press. You will notice condensation on the inside of the platen (see above). Wipe this condensation off with either a paper towel or dishtowel. Turn the flower press over and do the same thing to the second paten. Step 4 Also, don’t expect a pretty-looking press here; it’s all about speed and functionality with this one. Besides efficiency, another advantage is that you’ll be able to press hundreds of times (if done correctly!) without having to outsource blotting paper or other additional materials. By using a microwave flower press, you skip the weeks it would typically take to press flowers in a book or wood press and instead have your flowers ready to use in just a few minutes.

What You’ll Need to Press Flowers

Now, the fun begins; preparing your flowers for pressing. Remove any dirt and debris from each flower. Decide if you want to clip off leaves, stems, or stamens to only press flower blooms. Or would you create mini bouquets or dry individual flower petals? (I find it fun to try all these ways to see what you prefer.) This complete kit is ideal for crafters ages five and up and is a wonderful way to get children in touch with nature and their creative side. If you already enjoy flower pressing projects, getting this kit for your child or younger family members is a fantastic segue to exploring the activity together. I got to team up with Edible and create this project using flowers from their FruitFlowers bouquets! Yes, in addition to the incredible chocolate dipped fruit we all know and love, they also sell fresh seasonal flowers! Delivered, of course, right alongside that yummy chocolate dipped fruit. Best of both worlds: flowers to brighten someone’s day and a delicious treat to enjoy along with it! It makes for a beautiful gift, whether as a final project or a complete set. It also looks lovely on a shelf, blending effortlessly into the aesthetic of any craft station or living area.

The grands and I were really happy with the results. We used the microwave pressed flowers immediately in bookmarks and cards. If you’re a beginner or buying it for a child, then make sure you get a flower press kit that is designed to be easy to use and very approachable for someone who has never done this before. Failure to get the right difficulty level can turn out to be a very boring experience or a very difficult one, depending on where you missed the mark. ValueSome may have issues with the cooking time on their microwaves as it does vary between each kind of microwave depending on what power is being used, but once you get used to your own microwave, flower pressing will be a breeze. What Others Are Saying Open the book you are using to about the halfway point. Use a piece of wax paper to lay the flowers on and then fold the wax paper over the top of the flowers. This will prevent the colored juices of the flower from staining your book.
