The time is the late 1960s, and the setting is the small town of Lilydale, Minnesota. At first, I thought of Lily Dale in upstate New York, which allegedly is the most haunted town in the U.S. Upon doing some research, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Lilydale, MN, does exist; I just hope it is not as sinister a place as what is depicted in BLOODLINE. I rewatched the 1968 Roman Polanski film, of Rosemary’s baby, right before reading this book because I love to spot the references when I know a new book is paying homage to a Classic.

Max is a detective who butchers other languages and gets along better with computers than he does human beings. While trying to piece together the truth about Sam Roffe's death, Max stumbles across another series of murders that turn out to be connected to the family. It builds around that necessity well, though. Leia is clearly devoted to her family, and Han is a significant presence in the book if not a perpetual one. Bloodline is an enjoyable mystery with a wonderfully diverse cast, even though some revelations (such as Carise’s history) are more suddenly dropped into the reader’s lap than subtly revealed. More than others, this is likely to be someone’s first Star Wars book, as they search for more information and for more stories about the Sequel Trilogy era. Despite of everything, up to the second last chapter I was still sure that the end is going to be awesome, but alas! high expectations always lead to disappointment. The ending was like pouring cold water on so brilliantly plotted story. The culprit was caught, the most awaited part--ending, unfolds like any Hollywood movie's climax. But the ending was so unsatisfactory, a trusted and compassionate person throughout the story turns out to be the murderer and he dies the instant, he was caught. At last, suddenly after a few lines' explanation of his an another crime the book ends. Readers are left in haze, no explanation about other things, like--what was going on between Hélène and Rhys? What later happened with "Roffe and sons"? why Rhys kept the report and Hélène's letter hidden in his desk? When reading any mystery-thriller, readers hope that their every question would be answered at last. But here we are, left an-answered. Clearly a bad ending.
