As previously mentioned, the Asics GT-2000 8 is very similar, and if you're willing to forego some design improvements of the newer shoe, you can pick up a pair for considerably less. If you're looking for a lightweight and cushioned running shoe to help support your foot, the GT-2000 9 model is an excellent choice. Creating a strong bond with the ground beneath it, the outsole allows you to stay in full control at all times. Don’t know how they did it, but somehow the designers created a perfect shoe for my high-arched, size 15, Achilles tenonsis and modern-world-distorted foot. The lightweight FLYTEFOAM™ technology midsole offers a soft landing with each stride, so you can experience a more energetic stride.

The softer mesh upper provides for plenty of ventilation, especially in the heat of the day during those longer runs. The shoe's upper is also made with recycled materials, while the sockliner is produced with a solution dyeing process that reduces carbon emissions and water usage. It’s always a gamble any time a manufacturer overhauls a popular shoe and I admit that I was immediately suspicious when I saw what appeared to be the Kayano 18 midsole on the GT 2000 GTX. Flex grooves also adorn the outsole to provide added traction underfoot, the grooves allow for natural foot flexion for easy, unhindered paces, the flex grooved work with the rubber outsole to provide an abundance of underfoot traction. I love a shoe that does not leave me questioning whether or not my next step will lead me to a misstep, a stumble, or even worse, a potential injury. The fit is secure from the heel to the mid foot and the toe box sizes in a touch narrower than I usually prefer.

Sockliner is produced with a solution dyeing process that reduces water usage by 33% and carbon emissions by approx. And as someone who is always wary of ankle and Achilles tightness or strains, the heel felt comfortable and reliable for plenty of miles. The GT 2000 GTX uses a rather traditional looking array of overlays that are both sewn on and welded in construction.We tested the GT-2000 9 back-to-back with the GT-2000 8, and found them to be of roughly equal stiffness. If you prefer a less rigid shoe then you’d be better off with one of Asics’ more neutral options, but for runners who like a strong guide, it’s a good match. For nearly 30 years, the GT-2000 series has been the stability shoe of choice for runners ranging from casual weekend warriors to top marathon finishers. In the case of the GT 2000 GTX, Asics adds an all weather Gore Tex upper and an aggressive outsole lug pattern for running both on and off road in any weather condition.
