About this deal

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. To me is a nice, straightforward relaxing dram. A “sipper” that you would have no problem coming home from work and having a nip of. It’s not complex but it doesn’t need to be. Its simplicity is a strength. Nose: I have alot of drying oak with some wet long grass and a hint funky. Then I have some low notes and orange. Unfortunately, I also have some chemicals. The nose is young and a bit rough but not bad. After sipping it thhe nose shows vanilla In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky.

Nose: Frgarant, light but cereal rich nose. Digestives dipped in camomille tea. Crushed almonds and mixed cereals. Honey biscuits and stewed fruits. Dried apricots and vanilla pods rounds the nose off. I didn't really detect any notes that were described in the write up, but I am usually very good at identifying coffees, wines and rums. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The nose is a bit of a curiosity, but not out of line for a Lowland malt: lots of cereal notes and fresh cut grass along with a little bit of oak while resting in the glass. Adding a few drops of water brings out more sweetness: lots of honey roasted almonds and citrus zest. On the palate, there’s a little bit of nutty flavor which gives way to baked green apples and a faint reintroduction of citrus zest towards the end. The finish isn’t too long or intrusive, very soft with more lemon, cereal, and oak. This is not a single malt providing a new or challenging experience for anyone familiar with the lighter flavor profiles of the Lowlands. However, it’s nothing to scoff at or refuse when offered a glass. Glenkinchie is another distillery in Diageo’s rather expansive portfolio that doesn’t receive a lot of love or attention from corporate headquarters. It doesn’t have the hype multiplier of a Lagavulin, nor the cult fanaticism of a Port Ellen. The humble little Lowland operation which, according to my faithful 2020 edition of the Malt Whiskey Yearbook, only produces 2.5 million liters per annum, not a lot when compared to corporate siblings Caol Ila (6.5 million) and Teaninich (10.2 million). There are also not too many expressions offered for sale, aside from the occasional appearance in a special limited series or the higher end 24 year old. Let’s find out where its flagship 12 year old takes us.The harshness that first befell the drinker has long since disappeared. Indeed, it is a wonderfully soft whisky and its palatable offerings are even more delicate than its smell. Memories of a warm summer’s evening intensify with each tasting. Honey becomes the support actor, and faint liquorice traces leave themselves upon the tongue. Caramel, a late entrant, closes the show. From snifter, slightly heavier splash of water Nose-23: fresh orange (brief), raisins, green apples, honey, white bread Palate-22: maple and brown sugar, oatmeal, sliced almonds, more raisins Finish-22: flash of peat and smoke, cinnamon sugar toast rolls through, before a warm, dry, tingly, mouthfeel wets your appetite for another taste Balance-23: a very warm comforting stroll through a broad spectrum of flavors. Overall-90 Finish: Sharp and fast. Mildly spicy – oak tannins, earthly and fruity notes. Water adds bitter notes and makes the tannic oak more dominant. Very fresh aftertaste.

Glenkinchie 12 year old single malt whisky is kinda new addition to the core range of this Lowland distillery. This is a entry level bottling released in 2007, replacing the 10 year old by Glenkinchie. Lowland has only six distilleries located in the region. Like the name suggests, Glenkinchie lies in a glen of the Kinchie Burn farmland near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. Located 15 miles from Edinburgh, making it “The Edinburgh Malt”. Founded in 1837, it was until 1989, they started to get more recognizability when United Distillers started marketing them under the Classic Malts brand (owned by Diageo nowadays). It's been a while since I've reviewed anything on Connosr, so thought I'd start with something less taxing than the Rollercoaster... This evening I'm sipping on this little number. It's not my usual dram of choice, but I fancied something a bit more lightweight, and this is fitting the bill kind of nicely. It wasn’t until 1881 that whisky-making restarted, when a group of Edinburgh investors, seeing the rise in blended whisky sales, came on board. Under the eye of MajorJames Grey the plant was rebuilt and expanded into its current form in 1890. The nose is light, fruity, and fragrant: apples, honey, oranges, and a malty sweetness are all there, followed by a touch of white chocolate. All in all rather pleasant and quite elegant. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. Bought this Glenkinchie in early 2011, more than two years ago, tasted it once or twice being mildly satisfied but a little dissapointed. So much i do know, that all a malt needs to show it's true colours, is a natural quality presentation, good casks, a little air, lots of time, patience and perseverence. After opening up with a drop of water, a complex sweetness, like toffee came through - moreso than the tamadhu 12, which I felt was of a less complex sweetness but felt it was less complex than the Glen Scotia's salted caramel feel. Named as “Best Lowland Single Malt” at the 2013 World Whiskies Awards, this is a Ex-Bourbon cask matured whisky. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products.

It has bit of complexity in the taste, yet it is quite simple in aftertaste. Much fun, sophisticated and light, easy to enjoy. Like a good Woody Allen film. Since it's very floral, I'll call it Blue Jasmine. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. I'm whiskey/whisky/bourbon layman, but am more well versed with cognac and rums, with Doorly's 12 being my favourite. You may call this a floral nose. Quite some grasses and flowers and pretty grainy too. Only after a few moments do I get some toffee, honey and some pears. Lime creeps in slowly. Some vanilla and nuts. But not much else and to be honest: this is a very mediocre and not very interesting nose. The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars.

What next?

Taste: Smooth and light citrus fruit and bitter orange slowly develop while a short lived fruity sweetness wrestles with lemon myrtle and mandarin peel to bring elements of bitterness towards the end. Not bad. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Palate: Clean, fresh cereal-rich arrival, with that digestive note this time mixed with acacia-honey, caramel and an artificial sweetness(saccharin). There is a slight yeast-y note that develops from this, making the arrival simplistic but very comfortable and very pleasant. The developement is made up of green gauge, a BIG peach note that prolongs the medium-long cereal finish, some bitter oak and marmelade creeps in as well as some spiritiness.
