About this deal

So if you get a bunch of it today, you are almost certainly going to pay less for it than a year later. As a heads up, this article is geared towards the beginner, but if you’re a seasoned film pro I think you’ll find some useful information in here too. Maybe I’ve been drawn to shooting mainly good films as they get talked about more and so have subconsciously grabbed my attention.

Grain is a complicated, never-repeating pattern of microscopic clumps of chemicals; their size may alter depending on various conditions, and there are no perceptibly-defined grains’ edges. With that said, the exposure latitude is not the best and if you’re shooting portraits, it’s best to keep the exposure as even as possible. They are not exactly the same, sometimes even different, as I didn’t take the exact route for my photography expedition each morning. The park was originally meant for rock climbing, and loose carabiners can be found along multiple trails.Ektar lives in a world between two films: Professional negative film like Portra and slide film like Ektachrome.

As well as the aforementioned finest, smoothest grain of any color negative film available today, it also promises to bring ultra-vivid color and exceptional sharpness. Of course this is mostly due to the excellent photographer ;–), but the Ektar 100 film with ECN-2 excells here, too. com is a trading name of Jessops Europe Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 08384909. Automatic corrections in scanners and software also don't tend to do the best job with Ektar's unique colour formulation. I’ve tried to use three photographs below that demonstrate the claims Kodak explicitly makes of Ektar. However with the shots that are taken before sunrise Ektar helps to bring out the very subtle colours. Ektar was a real game changer when it first appeared in the late 80s-there was even a 1000 speed version! Using the current developing costs from my usual source, Ektar is only 58% the cost per frame as Velvia 50. New Ektar” (ISO 100/21°) was introduced in September 2008 and claims to be the finest-grain colour negative film available on the market. However, with Kodak Ektar 100, the grain is barely noticeable throughout the entire image even in the out of focus areas and shadows where grain usually shows up the most.

Still, it’s around five bucks (or more) cheaper per roll than slide film, and the results you’ll be getting with Ektar can be similar or even better — in terms of resolution and contrast. This film doesn’t do as well as Kodak Portra, or even Kodak’s consumer films Gold and UltraMax, when recovering details. It features super-saturated warm colors that make colors pop, high contrast, and is the closest “look” you’ll get to slide film without actually using slide film. This fine grain color negative film has high contrast and strong saturation which resembles the look of slide film but with better exposure latitude. Ive also recently (thanks to Negative Feedbacks "cheap film comparison" - check youtube) tried some Kodak ColorPlus 200 (at 100 again) and that stuff is lovely, but a bit more expensive than Agfa Vista. Firstly, I'm really glad that you visited such a beautiful place in my country and its a big shame for me that I haven't been to Carpathos.

I’ve been shooting Ektar on and off for the past five years while living in Thailand and Canada with a few different cameras. Of all the films I exposed so far the Ektar 100 – especially in combination with Silbersalz35’s ECN-2 processing – is clearly my favorite.

Second, I would imagine that it’s more efficient to produce a single sheet of film and cut it into a large variety of formats than to manufacture multiple film speeds on separate machines (as they did in 1989-1991). Ektar is a film that can be difficult to scan, and in my video review on Youtube (at the end of this article) I talk a little more about this and some other tips when it comes to shooting portraits on this film. I set my incident meter to 400 and stick it in the shadow to get a quick reading and then shoot from there.
