About this deal

I handed the box to my 2 year old – I thought he was going to gnaw through the box once he realized what was inside – and my 5 year old began to fuss.

Item comes as is only, that is the leap pad tablet its self with attached stylus, no extras are included. I can almost hear the gears in that head of his as he wonders what his big brother is learning and playing. I like that the system has a front and back camera, and video camera, so kids can take their own pictures and videos, but the resolution is really poor.My son has some great games that we acquired while he was enjoying the LeapPad (1), and both of us are happy that he can continue to play those games on the LeapsterGS. To try and help you to decide I have put together some key facts about both tablets and offered the opinion of us a real family, with 5 year old twin girls, a near 9 year old boy and a non-geeky mum and dad. The tablet itself is durable, colorful, and gives children the opportunity to learn through an interactive and engaging interface, which can also hels to motivate alternative learners to practice thinking and academic skills.

So I gave it four star for the difficulty to downlaod games if you are outside US/UK, otherwise I will give it 5 Star hands down. Even though the LeapPad Ultra is a phenomenal device, I wouldn’t rule out the purchase of the LeapPad2 if you are getting your feet wet in the LeapPad world, are on a budget, and purchasing for a younger child on the younger age range (3-5) who has time to grow into the features of the LeapPad Ultra. It has been fun to watch him learn how to use the camara and drawing tools to include us in some of the stories and games. Though prior generation LeapPads are decent with game play time using standard “AA” batteries or rechargeables, even though the device has auto-shut off to preserve the power, if your kids like taking pictures and videos, it’s totally worth the extra money to not have to worry about replacing the batteries and just plugging it in the wall to charge. Laarni started her career with PC Magazine in 2000 as a staff editor for the Network Infrastructure team. I don't normally play games myself but have played on her leappad quite a few times as it is fun and my daughter and her dad even fight over who is going to play with it so for adults it can be quite fun to play with too. In determining your budget, you should also keep in mind additional funds for the purchase of downloadable apps and games through the App Center.
