the following information on the restoration (and per Arrow's recent tradition, they include the same booklet in their standalone 1080 and 4K UHD William S. Burroughs Reads Naked Lunch - an audio recording of William S. Burroughs reading from his novel Naked Lunch. The recording was produced in 1995 for an audiobook and features music by Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, and Eyvind Kang. (64 min, 1080p). Naked Making Lunch (SD, 49 min.) – This 1992 documentary from filmmaker and writer Chris Rodley delves into the making of 'Naked Lunch' with some impressive clips and interviews with David Cronenberg, and, impressively, William S. Burroughs, while also managing to include some of the cast and crew too. Naked Making Lunch, archival making-of documentary directed by Chris Rodley presented in a scan from the director’s personal 16mm print and viewable with an audio interview with Rodley discussing his connection to Cronenberg and the process of making Naked Making Lunch Winner of Best Picture, Best Direction, and Best Screenplay at the 1992 Genie Awards and winner of the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Director, the film also features a superb supporting cast including Roy Scheider (Jaws) and an astonishing score by Howard Shore (The Fly), featuring Ornette Coleman. Naked Lunch is provocative, transgressive, and surreal – a feast for the senses, where nothing is true and everything is permitted.

Criterion's 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 transfer for this release of 'Naked Lunch' is certainly impressive. This is by far the most notable iteration the film has seen since it was released in theaters, and even then it's hard to imagine an image as sharp and pristine as the one presented on this release. Audio Recording of William S. Burroughs – This is a 1995 recording Burroughs did for an audiobook of 'Naked Lunch.' Occasionally, this can just be chalked up to the fact that Hollywood couldn't see the work attracting a large enough audience to justify the untold millions of dollars it would take to see said film come to fruition. Other times, it's simply because the work in question has been dubbed unfilmable, or the content too unlike what Hollywood normally puts out to rationalize the effort of making such an adaptation. Most recently, Ang Lee's Academy Award-winning adaptation of Yann Martel's 'Life of Pi' comes to mind with this notion of unfilmable books being brought to life, but there are countless others such as Bret Easton Ellis' 'American Psycho,' Vladamir Nabokov's 'Lolita' (which has been made twice, by the way) and Hunter S. Thompson's 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' just to name a few. Special Effects Gallery (HD) – There is an extensive collection of images detailing the special effects work of Chris Walas that is joined with a voice-over of Jody Duncan's essay from Cinefex magazine.

supposedly extracurricular items which nonetheless had tethers to Burroughs' own real life. The result is one of the most hallucinatory films probably flushed red-orange appearance that the Criterion version has, and which Arrow's 1080 presentation tends not to emphasize quite as much. This is a a potent drug being used by exterminator Bill Lee (Peter Weller), a character based on Burroughs, who had employment as just such an "agent It truly doesn’t matter if you’re tripping from bug dust or not when watching this HEVC-encoded 2160p presentation framed at 1.85:1, as you’ll be treated to an absolutely stunning transfer through and through. This presentation is sourced from a 4K restoration of the original camera negative undertaken by both Turbine Media and Arrow Films. Scanning was done in Toronto, then conforming and color grading was done in Germany by Turbine, and then the final transfer was approved by Cronenberg. The result is a beautiful and filmic image that pulls an incredible amount of detail out of the source. restoration from the original camera negative overseen by director of photography Peter Suschitzky and approved by director David Cronenberg

the key to any number of questions Bill has as to what exactly is real and what is not. There are a number of at times patently gonzo sidebar Lee is brought to incredible life by Peter ‘ Robocop’ Weller, looking impossibly young and photographed to look almost insect-like. Ably supported by the likes of Judy Davis, Ian Holm, Julian Sands, and Roy Scheider, each giving a performance that is equally as obtuse and confusing as the narrative, but being completely in keeping with the whole. Legendary cinematographer Peter Suschitzky lights the sets hot and claustrophobically to intensify the density of the material, while usual Cronenberg collaborator Howard Shore, along with Ornette Coleman, score the film with enigmatic and jazz filled music that in isolation might seem odd, but in context is magnificent. And writer/director Cronenberg himself injects the film with a sense of glee as he wilfully sets out to deliberately infuriate and confuse the viewer by keeping all the answers tantalisingly just out of reach, but superficially stringing enough together to keep a narrative thread running throughout, no matter how much it meanders along the way. Film Still and Design Sketch Gallery - this gallery features production stills, by set photographer Attila Dory, of the cast and crew at work on the set of Naked Lunch. Also included are design sketches for some of the sets, drawn by art director James McAteer under the supervision of production designer Carol Spider. All images are in 1080p.rather cheekily inserted old school into supposed tv monitors, looking at Burroughs, Cronenberg and the film. throughout in this version, and shadow detail in some of the dimly lit interior scenes can also show improvement.
