About this deal

In a world of demanding egos and overly pressing schedules, Sally sought refuge in her true passion, classical music. “ I auditioned for the London Symphony Orchestra Chorus in 1973 and passed“, says. “ It helped me escape insanity, and it was my secret. Until Jagger heard me sing the high notes of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” on the plane and asked me to bring the choir to sing at Knebworth’s concert in 1976· and i did it!»

Early chapters cover her upbringing and education. Readers may decide to skim over the early chapters, although I quite enjoyed them. It is often interesting to read about life in the long post-World War II era in the UK, and in the authors case, the remarkable family, eclectic friends and associates that populate her early life. But, she admits, there was one time when she did slip up. “It was on the Stones tour. I’d only ever seen heroin as yellowy, brown sugar, but this was white. I was so ill. But Woody [Ronnie Wood] and Keith [Richards] looked after me for hours and hours,” she says. “I would never have taken it by choice, because I saw what it did to them. It was all too easy. The same went for sleeping with the group. I didn’t want to be a cliché, and fortunately, it saved my sanity.” Sally does now realise while writing this book about her life there was a lot of privilege in her upbringing and education. The music industry fascinates me and I am beyond excited to acquire this for our branch and share my thoughts. I can’t wait to read Sally’s behind the scenes stories touring with some of the most popular acts of her time. Many more thoughts and insight to follow. In 1977, a private plane carrying six crew members crashed in Mississippi due to fuel shortage – a moment that Sally describes as when her “life fell apart”. “I lost my beloved Dean but he also saved my life, as I should have been on that plane.” (Dean had called Sally a few days before suggesting she took a different flight.)

This stunning memoir goes through the highs and lows of Sally’s life through text and photography, which gives the reader a look into this phenomenal woman’s life. We lived in Bel Air mansions, stayed in the best hotels, flew private jets, and received extravagant gifts from the bands," she writes. "It was certainly a life that was envied by many." After the Stones and the Who, the author writes about her time managing multiple tours of Lynyrd Skynyrd, in the UK, Europe and the US. She was obviously very close to this band and her description of events leading up to the plane crash and in particular, the aftermath is moving and poignant. In her writing about Lynyrd Skynyrd, she clearly loves both the music and the people. Even given their many faults, poor behaviours and lifestyle choices ! The chapters about this band really are the heart of this book, in many ways. After moving on from nannying five-month-old Jade and returning from travelling around Asia, Jagger’s driver called Arnold to inform her of a job going as The Rolling Stones's tour manager. Bel Air mansions, luxury hotels, private jets, extravagant presents and famous introductions all came with the role, but as Arnold puts it, so did instability. ‘As soon as one fire was put out, another arose’, she recalls. Dl Mcguire from Ponder, TxMy understanding of forums are not a place to decide if a song is offensive (sexist) or not... but merely a place to discuss its attributes and effects. Having said that, it has been re-done by Kevin Fowler. His [country] version somehow seems funnier than "offensive" (to me).

She had spent her childhood out of the limelight on a farm in Wiltshire: “ I was always a tomboy and I guess bossy as the eldestshe says to the Telegraph, also revealing that it was very difficult for her to resist the lure of the big city. At 16, before Norland, she had gone to London to work in the dressing room of the legendary Marquee Club in Soho, where she saw the best bands live: “ Jimi Hendrix of Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton“, says. When Sally moves on to organising charity events, she has to manage other larger-than-life personalities such as Billy Connolly and Rowan Atkinson. Sally also handles famous names from Princess Diana and the Duke of Edinburgh, to Mikhail Gorbachev and Poet Laureate Ted Hughes. As you would imagine the books covers exposure to substances, unsavoury people and Arnold touches on her own experience of being abused/people in power abusing that. Some of the antics and behaviour is quite appauling of these celebs. It was while Sally was at Norland Nursery Training College her life started to change meeting celebrities after taking a job at the Marquee Club. Working with some of the biggest names on the planet and mingling with the rich and famous, Sally has lived a life than we can only dream of. Eric from St Paul Mn UsaLike another song about big butts (recorded in the 90s by Sir Mix-a-lot); this song still gets a LOT of airplay and requests at wedding receptions, parties, and bars. ironically, skinny girls like both songs too.
