In contrast to other FDM printers, where filament fragments might become caught in the slots, I found it simpler to maintain the base clean. We could not find a pre-made Printer Profile (for Cura) online that included the best settings for this printer, but you can define a custom printer profile. The heated bed that holds the final product as it is extruded shifts perpendicularly to the travel of the printhead, and the gantry has a screw mechanism that slowly raises the head as each layer completes.The only issue I encountered with PLA printing on the Magician X is that small-area layers could get messed up, as we can see at the top of this alpaca 3D model. The first up was ABS and ASA, both common 3D print materials (ASA is the same as ABS, except its resistant to UV light. Mingda is enough of a presence in the community to have print drivers included in several of the 3D object viewing programs and sites that I visited, so that was a bit of comfort. They are tricky substances to print because they tend to significantly warp, and this is doubly challenging on an open gantry machine like the Magician.

Another useful feature that is supplied out of the box is a filament run out sensor that Mingda has added to the direct drive unit. The big challenge was to print with flexible TPU material, which is always difficult to print on any 3D printer. Electrical connections are easy to connect, with most plugs being an inch or two from their connection point.

Eventually I learned to very carefully touch the filename with my fingernail rather than my finger for improved accuracy. The first unit they sent me, this screw was bent and would barely reach into the hole to grab a thread. The LCD is responsive and intuitive, which we prefer over 3D printers that include twist knobs (such as the Prusa MINI+). I would like MINGDA to include the estimated remaining time somehow on the main information panel, but this may be a limitation of the firmware.

You’ll be required to attach the Z-axis with a total of size screws, using the provided alan (hex) wrench. I personally think that removable flexible beds are the best thing in the world and everything else feels archaic. Finally (after almost a month), they are sending me a new extruder motor to see if that maybe fixes the issue.

Thanks for the replies - I've done the simple paper test after auto-leveling so my Z offset appears to be correct. Equipped with newly upgraded dual gears direct extruder,much easier to load, double gears provides greater (conveying) force and preciser (filament) control. Our look at the MINGDA Magician X desktop 3D printer continues with setup, calibration and operation. The Magician X is fully capable of 3D printing materials other than PLA, so long as the required temperature is less than 260C, since the machine’s hot end contains a PTFE tube that could emit noxious gases at higher temperatures.
