About this deal

It wouldn't make sense to start anywhere else, since the most distinct mechanic of the faction is "Utopia". These make cities, repair any unit you own, clear cover and build gunrigs. Useful to have 1-2 with your army. In this loadout, the Ghostkeel will threaten some light to medium infantry, but will struggle to do much work against most other targets. While the CIR’s stat-line is respectable, the Ghostkeel will hit its target on average three times and will wound a further two against most targets. For the points cost, this is quite underwhelming.

You don't need either? Ok then, maybe you'd rather use your nova engines for 5 mobility, you get the idea. However, with all of their weapons being Heavy and only starting with BS4+ Broadsides have some significant limitations as well. Their immobility is one of the biggest issues, as Tau can already struggle to capture those midfield objectives much of the time and exacerbating this problem is often not a good strategy. A firebase centered around Broadsides may be nigh-invulnerable, but if your opponent simply pulls ahead on points this may never matter unless you can table them. Fortunately, moving and firing a heavy weapon isn’t nearly as punish as it used to be, and Tau have several solutions that can be enacted on the fly (Mont’ka off a Commander, 4+ Markerlight hits) to help mitigate the issue. Those skyspear missiles are pretty respectable as well: with D6 shots, strength 6, AP-2, and damage 2, there’s a lot of targets that T’au players can threaten.Barracuda • Manta • Orca • Razorshark • DX-6 Remora Drone Stealth Fighter • Sun Shark • Tiger Shark • Tiger Shark AX-1-0

The negatives of this is that you'll usually waste some food (2 fire warriors or 1 crisis suit cost 30, you'll get 40 from the trade, effectively wasting 20 influence) but this is compensated by food units effectively costing no upkeep. Finally the fireblade will get you a massive +6 loyalty to all your cities at level 6, making it a cornerstone to your lategame eco. These drones are deployed along with the Ghostkeel. After deployed, they count and act as a separate unit. However, the key point is that if the T’au Commander is tagged in combat, he is then all but useless for at least the following turn.

Today we discuss a couple of the lesser-taken models in the T’au codex. Hopefully players will take a fresh look in 9th. Who knows what the next T’au codex will do for the Ghostkeel. I hope that GW does something interesting with it. It’s such a fantastic sculpt, and it would be great to see more variety on the tabletop. Don't be deceived by the uninspiring 8 (base) armor / 48 hp, this beast comes with 33% fnp which becomes 50% with the module and further 67% with ethereal support and still has room for an additional 17% invulnerable module on top of it. The first two are simple enough. Make the model more tough and more dangerous. This is pretty simple stuff. But it’s the third suggestion that I think could be really cool.

A Broadside has its choice of two weapon systems each for its “primary” and “secondary” slots, which can be freely mixed within a squad; however, as with most such units it is almost always better to keep loadouts identical across all members of a squad unless you have a very clever plan (and trust me, your plan isn’t as clever as you think it is.) Presumably Mont’ka will appear in the Codex, but for now Tau only have access to Kauyon, which is sort of ironic because you’d think the Mont’ka hotheads would be first out of the gate, with the patient hunters holding off until the codex.Fire Warrior ( Fire Warrior Strike Team • Fire Warrior Breacher Team) • Pathfinder • Drone Squadron Recon drone: the pathfinder's "gun" drones are different from the other. They have 2 range (with similar damage) and scout, very versatile, very good to collect intel. However, they do not pin, so keep that in mind. It's problems lie in being the squishiest unit in the game and the "force multipliers" just not being all that great at low level and low tier units. Skip early, get later when you have worthwile units to buff. If the matchup is favorable make a few and coddle them, you won't regret it unless you get too careless. Ahhh yes, the SomethingSomething air unit nobody makes. Quite frankly this unit is a waste of tech and resources. Those 60 would be so much better spent elsewhere.
