Place your pen on an item and hold it there until the circle around the pointer completes. Then move the item to where you want it to go. There are numerous alternatives to Microsoft's own Surface Pen stylus, should you wish to try something a little different or need a cheaper replacement. If we had to recommend a single listing in this guide, it would be the Dell Premium Active Pen because it's one of the better styli out there. Add a Type Cover

In the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer, the red and blue of Kylo Ren and Rey's lightsabers popped nicely on the Surface Pro 7's panel, and a group shot of the Resistance crew gathering in the Millennium Falcon looked sharp and colorful (if a bit oversaturated). I could make out every tiny detail on the Falcon during a space battle scene, and I could clearly see every reflection emanating from C-3PO's gold body as he delivered some heartbreaking dialogue. The latter should contribute to stronger media streaming, especially at higher resolutions, as well as a slightly expanded gaming profile. For example, the Surface Pro 7 gets an impressive 25% boost in the Geekbench 4 multi-core test over the Surface Pro 6. Likewise, the Cinebench graphics test sees a 15% increase in performance in Pro 7 versus Pro 6, hitting the almighty 60 frames per second mark. The Surface Pro 7 isn't exactly on par with one of our best gaming laptops, but its integrated Intel Iris Plus graphics can handle non-intensive games at decent settings. The 2-in-1 ran racing game Dirt 3 at 36 frames per second, which is perfectly playable but not quite as smooth as the upward of 47 fps we saw from the XPS 13 2-in-1. Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Battery life

All things considered, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is one of the company’s most powerful Surface tablets. However, that boost in power appears to come at a cost to battery life. Hardware manufacturers and software makers – of which Microsoft is both – have had half a decade now to optimize their products around Intel’s 14nm silicon. They’ve likely had a fraction of that time to prepare for and adapt to Intel’s 10nm chips, and this could explain why the Surface Pro 7's battery life is worse than the previous model's. Aside from magnetic attachment, third-party pens also support all of these features, so they're a great choice too if you don't think you need to store the pen magnetically on your device. The Surface Laptop Go doesn't support active pens

Press and hold the top button of your pen for 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes white to turn on Bluetooth pairing mode. In fact, you don’t have to pair or connect your Surface Pen to start sketching or drawing on your Surface device. However, pairing the Surface Pen with your laptop or tablet lets you access the full suite of Surface Pen functionalities and information.

The Surface Pro 6 of 2018 employed a 14nm Intel Core CPU, which was fine for the job (and arguably still is), but this CPU has brought that transistor size down to 10nm, which means more transistors in the same overall CPU die space. The introduction of USB-C is a much-needed change, and the Pro 7's design remains as travel-friendly as ever. We also appreciate the Alcantara fabric that makes a return with this Type Cover, which appears and feels to be more tightly woven than before.
